asking them for a favor.  Signed out the Nigerian person and changed my password.  Am I safe now?  Or should I call my tech savvy friend to clean my computer?

Thanks,
Madison

if they receive anymore spam from my email after 12:30pm today.  I need to know if signing him out and changing my password from a different device has shut him down.

I am so sorry!
I am having my IT friend clean my computer tonight so that I know I am safe looking at my bank accounts online or shopping.

I made changes to my password 3x between 12:30 until 1pm from different devices.  When my IT friend gets off work, we will decide if I need another email to link from my contact form and just shut this one down.  I don't know yet if I have been successful at stopping him.  I personally think this yahoo account needs to go.  I am so sorry......... He said me logging him out and changing the password should have stopped him.  My friends are telling me the last emails asking for a loan were sent about 12:42-12:43pm.  I need to know if this continues, please call me.  My IT support says the receivers of the email should be fine.  But I would suggest deleting the emails opened and changing your password to your email.  Again, so very sorry..... I just got a request from your hacker at about 4:15.

Sorry

Usually, that's not how it works.  I don't have the particulars since I am not on your list, but he most likely just stole your contacts and is sending from his own mail server or an open server.   He can also use it now for "from spoofing."

Diligent users can check the email headers to try to determine the source... or at least that the sending server is linked to the domain... gmail, yahoo, etc...  That can then be used to block the offending emails.

Changing your account password will not stop it.  The damage is already done.

Good luck.

The bad news for me is that I lost all my contacts on my phone.

Bad day.

So sorry to everyone.

Do not email anything to [email protected] and don't open anything.

I have a new email [email protected] that I have already sent a report to TER to change; and also waiting on my webmaster to call me and change where my contact form from my website goes.  My phone number is the same, I just won't know who you are if you text or call me.

anybody that has ever filled out my contact form, sent email for verification, reference or date; got spammed by my email hacker.  And the hacker stole my contacts away from me.  My "egg" that I had worked and nurtured and gave insider updates when I missed them.  I would like to choke that fucker.

You or your IT person can recreate these contacts from your outgoing box or inbox if those are not mass deleted! Even deleted then check the trash bin to rescue these contact info!
Just an idea ...

trash is empty.  I will keep it open for awhile and monitor it before deleting and making sure I can salvage all I can from sent mail.

For some reason Yahoo seems particularly vulnerable to this sort of hack.  You are correct that the perp steals your contact list and then generates spoof emails either soliciting (as here) or trying to get the recipient to click on a link ("Look at this!!!")  Nothing can be done once the contacts are gone.

1.  Do you have a remote backup setup for your computer?  If so, there are often several generations of each file that can be recovered.  Not sure whether Yahoo stores contact files on your computer or in the Yahoo cloud.  If the latter, then you don't have the recovery option.

2.  I'm sure your IT friend did a deep malware scan on your computer, but it's worth making sure he did.  If not, you should do that because your Nigerian friend could have left behind a nasty surprise.

Numerous providers have posted that contact forms are completely secure and that your information is deleted immediately and that screening is for your own safety.

has been a friend for about 15 years.  He knows everything about me from real name, business; and my other shadow life.   He has kept up with all my computers over the years.  This is someone I completely trust and I allow him to "log me in" to keep my computers updated, safe and clean.

I watched him for awhile last night. He ran scans with Malware Bytes, Norton and CC cleaner and I don't know what all else.

TER has already corrected my profile with the new address.  And my IT support is also my webmaster.   So my website contact form should be corrected when he returns my call today.

What a nightmare to lose all my contacts.  I don't understand how hackers work, but I feel pretty confident with my new encrypted hushmail.  I am still afraid to go to any sites that have my CC on file for shopping; and I am still afraid to look at my online banking.

I don't see a lot of clients and most are repeat.  The repeat clients want me to recognize who they are in text message.  I have clients that I only email to their fake email and I don't even have a number for them.  And I have clients that ask all their information be removed from my phone at the end of business.  We do it right then.  So I don't know what you are getting at.  What is the evil hacker going to do after he tries his scam on a couple of dozen people that recognize spam?  It's not like he got my personal email with thousands of information on my network.

If you are a hobbyist you can ask at the end of session to delete all your information.  It's not uncommon in today's vibe to cover tracks and being extra careful.

If you are a provider, what is your purpose

Maddie, Don’t pay much attention to what SMH has to say!

This type of hacking is a part of life these days ... we all have to deal with it. It is not your fault that it happened. You did everything you are expected to do after you found out - kept us informed all the way!
I have received email from your hacker - I am not concerned at all and have dealt with it.

SMH, nothing is secured once you put it out there on the Internet!! If you believe or expect otherwise then you must believe pigs can fly!!!!

Not impossible but would need to be VERY skilled and have sophisticated scanning capability.  Very unlikely!  However, you can get to gmail via the website mail.google.com.  Could have got into that.

is completely safe and encrypted.  My contact form from my website goes to my new hushmail email account.  My TER PM is safe.

The only account hacked was my old yahoo email.  My computer is safe and my phone is safe.

The hacking is over and I moved on.

Please accept my apology that this asshole got in my old account and tried to make money off a sad story he made up about me.  I would never send something like that out and I am a very private person.  I am sorry.  And I thank all the people that knew better, that were blowing my phone up that morning to let me know.
