Atlanta

Mostly not the low hanging fruit

What I'm seeing more and more are victims who happen to be in the "wrong place at the wrong time".  People are getting shot at randomly while driving on the interstate, stopped at a traffic light, or walking/jogging next to a road.  Bystanders are getting hit inside malls and outside businesses in the crossfire between people and gang members holding grudges.

ATL violent crime is rising quite substantially and random attacks are becoming more common. Buckhead, specifically, seems to be a hot spot for increased violent crime lately. It's also a spot for some of ATL's best providers. Anyone finding this uneasy?

It’s not just Atlanta
It’s also totally coincidental (imho) that that some of Atlanta’s finest ghost on that area

If it was related, that crime spike would be even more prevalent just OTP north of the city where there’s an even larger provider presence

Buckhead is a hot spot because of two reasons
#1. Upscale (target rich environment)
#2. Lots of foot traffic

They usually attack the low hanging fruit.  I'm a bigger guy and I'm not scared of very much.  I generally am carrying unless I'm going in to see a lady, in which case I leave it in my car.  I also try to not make myself a target.

That is what i'm seeing too. Large increase in random attacks. Not even safe in your own vehicle these days. Just this morning another random shooting on a vehicle traveling on 85 by the 400 connector.

The last time I went down to Buckhead for a hobbying visit, the lady made me wait in a parking lot for about 30 minutes before she sent me the room number.

During that time, there were a ton of unsavory characters roaming about: homeless, some who appeared to be mentally ill, some that were looking in cars and likely up to no good, and some that were apparently living in the hotel parking lot in their cars. I got stared at several times and found myself wanting to know why this lady was making me wait so long in this kind of place.

I hate what's happened to Buckhead. It's always had it's seedy side (especially on weekend nights), but it's gone to a whole new level recently. For that reason, I have decided to avoid Buckhead meetings, and especially at night. I'm also a big guy who can take care of himself in a regular fight, but a lot of what's happening is random, senseless, and comes without warning.

Besides, if I do get into an altercation and have to call the police, how exactly am I going to explain being in Buckhead at a hotel parking lot?

For that reason, I've decided to pass on women who are in Buckhead, at least until they can get this under control.

Yeah, totally agree with you. Buckhead has gotten unsafe and the last thing I want is to be targeted and then have to explain myself to my SO why I was at that place at that time.

I guess I'm just not that observant.... There are places in Atlanta I won't go at night, just like most cities... but I cannot think of anywhere I would not go during daytime hours.  Stray bullets are real but unlikely and I just don't see people targeting me (at least it has not happened ever).  Finally I'm not concerned about explaining why I was somewhere in the city to a SO or wife as I don't have either one of those.
