Okay. I know this is a bit off topics for this forum, but I thought I'd float the question just the same since it's definitely an over-60 thing. As I get older (now in my 70s......Yeesh!) arthritis has started to take its toll....wrists, thumbs, fingers, shoulders, you name it. I am taking all of the usual meds -- turmeric, collegen, NSIADS -- and watch my diet carefully for inflammatory foods. But, it still persists and is getting worse. Have any of you found a herb or arthritis medication particularly effective?

…people who swear by it for various conditions but I don’t know about osteoarthritis.

Try Ginger (not the escort); it’s supposed to be good for inflammation.

Have taken acupuncture treatments multiple times for arthritic knees. Not a cure but seemed to help. Plus, in my experience, a very relaxing way to spend an hour. Very calming.

Two things I would look into are testosterone replacement therapy. If you aren't using it already, it will make everything in your life better, including joint problems, especially knees. And, if you can get off the anti-inflammatories, and look into Exome stem cell therapy you may have great results.

If you are sure it's OA and not RA then NSAIDs are most effective.  However, too much use can be harmful to your stomach and sometimes liver. I highly recommend OTC glucosamine with chondroitin joint care supplements that will maintain cartilage in joints. You may also want to try cannabinoids  - specifically an edible with low THC (1mg) and high CBD (20 to 25mg). CBD is known to have anti-inflammatory properties and the low THC should be relaxing without getting you high. Good luck.

I had severe osteoarthritis in both of my hips, could just barely walk.  Used all the supplements, remedies, chiropractic and physical therapy.  Hip replacements (not an option for everyone) was a miracle fix for me!  I was pain free immediately and running stairs in a few short weeks.  I am back to riding my naughty friends.
Kisses, licks and nibbles, Kaylie

I've been using CBD in 1000 mg as applied topically. Do a search on Hemp Bomb. It feels like it works just a little better than Voltaren. My problem is with my shoulders.

I use a product called Curcumin Plus. Its curcumin, turmeric and ginger as an oil. I also distill my drinking water to remove the chlorine and fluorides, but do add back necessary organic minerals. I mix the oil tincture with the distilled water and drink this cocktail throughout the day. This keeps most of my joints relatively pain free. I don't use any OTC anti-inflammatory pills.

Thanks!
"Organic Minerals" puzzles me a bit.  What are some examples that you use?
.
Web search turns up examples like hydrocarbons (petroleum) and bat guano -- I don't think you mean those.

I probably should have said organic trace minerals: sodium, potassium, magnesium.

I like BODYBIO REMINERALIZE. It's a complex of macro/micro ionic sea minerals. I do about 30 drops per gallon of distilled water.

I tried another called Concentrace (trace minerals) but if it is mixed too strong, (over 20 drops), it will cause severe gastric disturbances. I don't think this one is organic.

Sorry, I'm still confused.
Those "mineral" elements are about as inorganic as it is possible to be.   Yes, they are ionic.  Very much not the same!
There are no carbon bonds among them, and that's the definition of organic (in chemistry).
There are not farm products with a seal-of-approval, and that's the definition (in food commerce).
They are called "minerals" in supplementese just because they are not animal nor vegetable (nor microbial nor fungal...) and therefore have no organic carbon chemistry.
.
So I still wonder how they actually got to be labeled organic [trace] minerals, and the seller didn't get sued (yet) by the organic farming sealers-of-approval?
.
I have no argument nor concern with their health properties, nor with your use and experiences.  I use mineral supplements myself.

This post is not only highly informative but proves that you really can learn something new and relevant not related to "the hobby" here on TER! Thanks for this crash course! I really enjoyed it.

I don't know what to tell you regarding inorganic vs organic. My college chemistry is 55 years in the rear view mirror and was not the career I chose. I got that info from a holistic practitioner; tried it and it's working well for me. For the products, I searched Amazon.

What I was trying to convey was turmeric, ginger and curcumin help reduce arthritic inflammation. Chlorine and fluoride, according to the NIH can contribute to arthritis, so it is not a bad thing to remove them from drinking water. Distillation removes the chlorine and fluorides from water, but also removes other trace elements that you should make sure to replace.

I mix the anti-inflammatory product and minerals with distilled water for convenience so I get a diluted dose in my drinking water all day. I feel better. I don't ache. That's what counts.

The distiller paid for itself pretty quick, making 4-5 gallons per week. It also supplies my CPAP needs. The distiller does need to be wiped out after each batch and descaled weekly.
