Repeat request. Lock old threads!

There is an 8 year old and a 6 year old thread right near the top of this page now. There is a 5 month old, and a 16 YEAR OLD thread on the first page of the GD board. This is rediculous. There has got to be a way to prevent this. Other forums do it all the time.  Here is my previous thread on the topic.

...that does it. I don't know why there is a flat view now that tree opens the way it does.

... for a different kind of problem... one way to deal with this, if the old threads bother you, is to simply ignore the old threads (easy to do since the age of the thread is displayed).

;)

And I totally expected it from you! It's ok, I'll take it. I deserve it. However, I do see a difference in certain posters trying to ignore other specific posters, and the ancient thread resurrection topic. You seemed to agree with me in the last thread I started about this. ;)

... it's possible to do what you want to do.  Just trying to be helpful. :)

I don't see it being a big problem, as you do.

I think it's odd that people sometimes resurrect a thread from many months or even years ago, but I don't see it happening that often.

I'd rather see TER 's limited development resources be used for other improvements. For example, I'd put the ability to ignore aliases at a higher priority than preventing old threads from getting new posts.

You want to keep discussions lively and relevant. Bringing back old threads does the opposite of this.

Old threads should be retained for reference only and expire in some reasonably short time frame. 3 months probably works.
