each booker has regular customers that see his girls. They want to be able to tell their customers that they have a "new" fresh girl that hasn't been in the area before, so that the guys start lining up to see her. In SoCal, we get this all the time. The girls will rotate from LA to OC to SD and use a different name in each city. When I was a newbie eight years ago, I actually got fooled a few times by the different names and ended up seeing a girl in LA that I had already seen in OC under a different name, when I was expecting to see a new girl. Like the OP mentions, sometimes they are running from bad reviews, but that's more common with Indies than agency girls.

I also don't like the name change crap, especially for girls with good reviews. Personally, I am more likely to see someone I already know or someone with some decent reviews. I am LESS inclined to see a new girl with no reviews.
The name-changers are frequently outed on TER anyway.
Have the houses actually done any surveys? Do they think they get more appts for "new girl" or more appts for returning "reliable favorites"?

think of this as small mom and pop businesses. just rely on some customer feedback and talk back with other owners over coffee..

I agree with you. I am more likely to see a girl I know. However, I do see one new one on hour each week, but the motivation for me is attrition among my regulars. I like having three or four regulars I repeat with for varying amounts each month, but as you know, Kgirls don't stay around too long (except for a few legends), so I consider the new ones to be "interviewing" to become a regular.
There is a whole subculture within the Kgirl scene that espouses "one-and-done" meaning a large number of Kgirl hobbyists never repeat. I find this especially true among our "younger" brethren. They seem to prefer the thrill of new girls all the time over the connection you get from seeing the same girl(s) for awhile. For the one-and-done crowd, having the booker text you with the name of a "new" girl that just started can be exciting. If you look at many of the girls' reviews, you will see a cadre of the same named hobbyists flocking to all of the new girls. Each city has some. I have come to recognize many of the ones in LA, OC and SD because they seem to compete to see who is the first one to see a "new" girl Accordingly, the bookers feed this need by inventing new names when recycled girls are coming back into town.
It might be an interesting poll question, but I think you will find a large number in both camps, maybe not 50/50, but I would think close to it just watching the way the business goes.
It doesn't really bother me, a rose by any other name and all that. What does bother me is when differently girls are given the same name in the same area and perhaps even use the same ad pics. Doesn't happen often but I've seen it here on the east coast once or twice
