Not directing this at you Carla - but for new ladies wondering how to verify someone's references when a guy can't PM you, you can always contact the references and ask them to verify the gentleman's name and phone number instead of his handle. Unless he can actually send a PM, I wouldn't ask for a reference based on that handle... that's just the way I do it personally, I'm sure other ladies have some other ways that they verify gentlemen successfully.

 

Good to know I'm not the only one this has happened to LOL... I've had a couple of fake ones pop up over the years. I'm grateful because TER was lovely about spotting the inaccuracies and taking down the fake reviews when I sent in a request.

   

 

 
I don't know the details here but it could be that it was a similar situation, where someone else used your client's handle and pretended to own that handle. I hope the girl is okay.
I've been on the end where I met a gentleman who I had a really bad experience with, but his references had loved him and were shocked to hear about my having a bad session. And I've also had good clients go bad, where I provided a positive reference for a gentleman and then heard from the provider later on that she was flaked on or felt her boundaries were disrespected, etc. It's rare, but I have had it happen a couple of times.
All we can really do is keep an eye out for shenanigans and try to pass info along to each other when something seems strange. I'm always happy to lend a hand to ladies who need help getting the word out, and I try to compare screening resources as well when I have the opportunity. I've been really lucky & have learned a lot from other ladies
