At one time, these were dives.  Not anymore.  Parking in the area can be a problem, though.  Be prepared to spend about a c-note or two...

I used The LI a long time ago. I signed in with a fake name and my fake address was 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, DC. :-)

It has been reported for several years now that The LI requires ID from ALL parties checking in: you, her, and anyone else you might drag along. Even before the ID requirement, it was a nice place and not a flea bag flop house. They do have a web site where the rates and policies are posted.

Never used St. Marks.

Check out www.dayuse.com for additional ideas.

Thanks for the de facto info, MB. Their official (de jure) policy reads:

Sorry, we do not take reservations. Rooms available 24/7 on a walk-in basis (subject to occasional 10-45 minute wait), except as noted.
Verifiable photo ID is required from all guests. Guests must be 18 or older.
Rooms are for maximum of 2 persons. No visitors or 3rd persons.
    Both guests must check-in together.
A security deposit ($10 - $100) may be required of any guests (at discretion of Front Desk Staff) to be retained if guests leave late, cause disturbance, or do damage/theft.
No refunds after guests have checked in.
Guests staying 6 hours or less must leave room key at Front Desk when both exit the hotel during their stay.

It might be YMMV, so at least be sure that both are prepared to show ID or end up taking your date to the back seat of a long cab ride.

Cheapest room rate says $90 for two hours; $100 3 hours

as far as De jure and the De facto go, I am sure its ymmv. I was speaking of my experiences. I have been a few times during the day, before 5 pm and there was no wait, very little if any. I do believe they want you to know there is a possibility of a wait.

Maybe because I don't look like what I do in normal attire is why it was assumed this was an affair not a paid for play type of thing hence the no id required on my behalf.

But to know the true norm, more providers would have to chime in on the subject!
