Moving To DC ---- Maybe??!!!??

I'm thinking about a possible (residential) move to the DC area.  I completely fell in love with the place when I first visited late last year.  I love that you can find the "city feel" but it's not as crazy as NYC.  The only areas that I'm truly familiar with are Georgetown, Dupont Circle and Crystal City.

Soooo

I need some advice here.  What is your favorite neighborhood(s)?  Why?  And could someone please fill me in on Montgomery County??  I've heard good and bad - is it basically like the Maryland mirror of Fairfax County?

I think I would like to be inside the beltway and maybe walking distance to a metro?  I drive but public transportation can be so much easier sometimes and driving in the District still intimidates me a little.  I would like to live in a neighborhood that has a decent amount of "walkable" things to do but doesn't feel overly commercialized (hope that makes sense...)  I'm not sure that if I would "entertain" at home the first time I met someone but am definitely thinking that friends I have already met with would be welcome - so keep that in mind when talking about location....

Alright Now --- Fill A Girl In!!!!!

*** PS - To Clarify - This isn't an "Ad" - I'm not in DC right now but TER Admin required that I put this post here.  But I will definitely see you guys soon!!!

Arlington, Falls Church, Alexadria are all good places. Maybe even Reston, but Reston isn't metro accessible. Let me know when you're back in the DC area again ;)

The Reston metro line will be finished sometime in 2013. It will be called the Silver line.Close enough to DC but not that close to DC....perfect match.

I think you would like Arlington. Lots of bars and restaurants and driving isn't too bad. You an get to dc pretty easy and going out to Tyson's isn't too bad.  I live in Reston and while its nice you can't walk everywhere like Arlington. Jmo

I'm close to your age and I've lived in north Arlington and downtown Silver Spring and while both are metro/walking friendly, both have a commercialized, yuppiefied suburban feel to them.  One suburban area with plenty of local flavor is old town Alexandria.

If I didn't have to commute far away from the city, I would totally live in the city.  Eastern Market is a great neighborhood, walkable, has local flavor and brick sidewalks and metro.  The H street corridor is also great and being revitalized.  the whole east side of the city is easily accessible for driving and has lower rents.  If you're looking to buy as an investment, the east side is developing quickly.  The northwest side of the city is also easily accessible by car but has much higher rents.

Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights have traditionally had a lot of unique flavor as well, especially if you like diversity.  They are close to lots of bars, music venues, ethnic restaurants, and fun stuff.  Living close to Rock Creek Park can be good if you like to get away from the concrete and tall buildings every now and then.

Other people here may know more about the LE situation in different areas.  But if you're discreet and know your visitors it shouldn't be a problem.  There are reputable local ladies operating everywhere here with no problems.

Good luck!  I always like to see more lovely local ladies especially if available on weekends for incall.

I would lean towards Cleveland Park/Woodley Park/Van Ness in DC right on Red line Metro with restaurants, shops, grocery stores all within walking distance. Just my .10 cents (adjusted for inflation)

I'd probably second Arlington, due to its proximity to DC, Metro access and the fact that it's slightly less expensive than some of the other area. Between Rosslyn and Ballston you can have a somewhat urban feel with some anonymity, but still own a car without too much trouble. Montgomery County is nice for families, maybe not for singles. Silver Spring may be OK but not as convenient.

This is recommendation as well.  Arlington probably offers the best selection with lots of public transportation and several younger neighborhoods to choose from.  Hope you come back soon!

Hands down the best place for 20-35 year old people. Any other choice would be irrational...

Arlington is the best - South Arlington - Pentagon City or Crystal City is convenient to the Metro and has many apartments at lower prices then DC, and the income tax rates in Virginia (5.75%) versus DC (9%) makes it more attractive.  Its safe, le is low profile, you clientele will be military and defense contractors - safe, clean, neat - quick, and will repeat. Its on the water - West Bank of the Potomac - and close to the airport when you want to travel.  Georgetown is a 10-minute - $12 cab ride, so is downtown DC without having to live there, you can get in and out easily.

DC is too expensive and visible. A nice condo somewhere within walking distance around Arlington might be the best. Keep screening hard though.

One thing you should know is inside of DC and outside (Va, Md) are TOTALLY different.  If you like to enjoy hip city life (there are so much fun activities for young people like music, art, theater, restaurants, clubs.....), the best pick would be near 14th & U street, NW.   Yes, rent might be a bit higher but not as much as people would think, depend on what you look for. You will find lots of young people enjoying city life there and it is most interesting and energetic area.  If you don't care young hip life style as much but still like to live in a city, Arlington is a good choice.    There are some other good area like Capitol Hill, Old Town Alexandria but it is really depend on what you are expecting.
