For some agencies that primarily handle DC girls, vacation could mean they're gone for a week to ten days (maybe touring in another location before coming back to their home base). TGND was like that, with the exception of the German girl who would come back each summer.
For other agencies, like another poster said, "vacation"at a minimum means "this girl toured here before. She might come back. She might not."
My advice is don't focus on a girl that's not here. Get yourself screened so that when you do see a girl that's available, you actually can see her. Otherwise, you'll find yourself hesitating on whether to screen now, or not, whether to call now or not. And guess what, next thing you know THAT girl is on vacation too!

Also, would it be a good idea to start the pre-screening then, even I'd I'm not ready to schedule an appt at that moment?

It's best to do everything at the time you are ready to take the plunge. Ladies can be on "vacation" forever and the agencies either don't know or won't say when they will be back.
Ok , I don't mean to be obtuse here, but something you said is a little confusing. I was under the impression that the agency would do their own check, but it sounds like you're recommending a third party service (DIY?)
Verified through the agency alone - you can see the girls they have Verified through Date Check - many more providers to choose from
My suggestion is to do Date Check - it gives you both options to see Agency or Indy. may take longer to get started, but I think its worth it.
But be patient, there is no customer service line to call and bitch that its taking too long... things kinda progress at their own speed (The ones that are worth it are Slow and careful)
