10-15 years ago I was seeing ads for girls that looked young and  hot, in the 1000+ range. Some were said to be good others you would hear the same complaints about quality of service (GPS) and old/fake/modified photos as you hear now. And the mid-tier prices you get from the K-agencies were often claimed to be much better price-value propositions. Both price points have moved up now and people have complained about all of them.  

So a lot of things have happened over the past 20 years that impact what you're seeing but I don't think it's quite as much of a change as you're thinking. More something of a rising tide that impacted everything.
