First of all, there really aren't any cherry blossoms yet; the cold weather continues to delay them and they may not be very evident until late this weekend, if then.
Second, it is illegal to cut, rip or otherwise remove any of the cherry blossoms and the Park Service & their police force very strongly frown upon anything that resembles that.  It's because every year, literally millions of people come around to get up close & personal with the blossoms; if only 10% of them took a souvenir the trees would be dead in a year or two.  So don't ask people to bring you blossoms, it's both illegal & disrespectful; we long time DC residents thank you for your cooperation!
