My first visit to DC I rented a bike and rode the trail from Crystal City up to DC, and it was amazing! Great scenery on the trip, and if you have someone with you who isn't a bore its really fun! I got some great footage of the MLK memorial, the white house (which was closed), the Capitol building, Washington monument, Lincoln memorial/reflecting pool, and just a bunch of other cool areas for us visitors/tourists lol. If the weather permits during your visit I'd suggest pulling out a map, planning out what you'd like to see, and going for it! There is so much to see. Can't wait till I go back later this month to see more of the sites!
How awesome would it be if someone planned out a day of exploration full of fun and cool activities DC local style ... Just saying
fine dining? We have all of that, but your interests should influence what you try to see, because there is much. The Smithsonian alone has 16 Museums plus the zoo with the popular Panda cub, and all are free (si.edu). The National Gallery of Art (nga.gov) is one of the 5 top art galleries in the US. The Kennedy Center performance venue hosts the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington Opera Company as well as touring shows like Evita. So what do you like?
Hey Ally,
This place (link below) has bike rentals, bike tours, and Segway tours. Segway tours are 3 hours for $40-64 depending upon tour.
Hope you have a great time while you are here
1) Big Bus Tour to get acclimated
2) Air and Space Museum
3) Take the Capitol Tour, entrance in front of the Supreme Court, don't get intimidated - great tour.
4) Top of the Old Post Office Museum (I say its a must see - go ALL the way tot he top, spectacular).
5) Segway tour (not a must, but fun)
6) National Archives - see if the Constitution is on display.
More difficult, but takes some planning.
7) White House tour, can get tickets through your Congressional office, just ask if they have any slots open. Again, don't be intimidated, they WANT to help you. If not, just show up early and hope you're 'first" enough to get the free tickets. - exact same tour for both.
8) Marine Corp Silent Drill (again ask your Congressional office for tickets). This is AMAZING!
9) If you have the time, Mt. Vernon - think the Big Bus takes you there.
Thats a good start, then all the FREE Smithsonian Museums.
If you need a tour guide, let me know....you're cute.
