Everyone - well almost everyone - is focused on the basketball tournaments. I wonder how we could set up a TER tournament? 64 of the top providers would compete....but what would the competition look like? How would we pick a winner?
The images are overwhelming. So how would we arrange it?
Arranging it would be a problem to start. You are correct in asking how the competition would be constructed and who would decide the winner. Remember in NCAA tournament you are one and done. More importantly what would they win?

I couldn't name two teams and one player in the College 64. It's often evident, I'm not in the everyone crowd. Providers I can relate to. As far as a 64 top providers TER tournament, that's my kind of game. I would have no problem, remembering their names and other features.
This would probably be a lot of leg work on somebody...
but perhaps what you could do is set up the 64 highest rated providers in DC. With #1 going to the highest rated Provider and #64 going to the lowest, highest rated provider in DC. Then it's just a matter of coming up with #1 vs. #64 or #12 vs. #25. 64 might indeed be too many, but maybe 32 might be more manageable? As the idea grows over the years and we become better at it, we could try our hand at 48, then 64 and so on.
The only problem would be, what exactly is #12 going against #25 on? Looks? Ratings? #of Reviews? And who votes and what constitutes a loss?

Off base, oops I think that's baseball. I was way off court, in my thoughts on TER April madness. I would prefer a raffle amongst DC hobbyists, with the winner being the recipient of all 64 providers. No chance to upset anyone, except the hobbyists who didn' win.
...also, I'm realizing, we'd have to be very, very careful. This would be way too easy to accidentally offend a provider because she somehow "lost". Don't wanna create unnecessary drama on the board...
build on quad's raffle idea. Get 64 (or some number) of providers to agree to play, then have hobbyists enter a raffle to win a half-price 2-hour session with one of them. Maybe seed the providers based on the top 100 (or do it randomly), then the first hobbyist whose handle gets drawn gets provider # 1, etc. There'd have to be a time limit, like the session has to get scheduled by day X and take place before day Y. But it could work. But somebody would have to take charge and make it happen; could be a bit of work.
Building on it a little more...If Provider # 1 and Hobbyist # 1 can't agree for whatever reason (she doesn't want to see him, because he is a jerk, or he doesn't want to see her because he had lousy experience with her just couple of weeks ago), then we move to Provider # 1 and Hobbyist # 2.

I would prefer a $ 100 raffle ticket with only two hundred sold. A reputable provider would hold the funds. To lessen chance of the winner becoming a loser, she would also pay the donation to the providers as they are requested. The provider holding the money, would receive 10% of the pot for her dispursement of funds, however she would be required to do the winner, for one hour free. The hobbyist who won, could use his 18K winnings on any, or as many of the 64 providers in the game, until he ran out of money. Taking the money and running away, would not be allowed.
