from BWI to Union Station. Amtrak will probably cost more. And as to if you should upgrade? *grins* As a "country boy", I should think such a short trip wouldn't be an issue of needing extra luxuries.
I will be traveling to your area soon and am seeking advice from some of the locals regarding transportation. After attending a meeting near BWI, I need to travel to North Bethesda and would appreciate suggestions on the best and least painful way to get there.
I have done quite a bit of research and one of the better options seems to be taking the Amtrak from BWI to Union Station, then board the Red Line to my destination. It will probably take 1.5 to 2 hours to make the trip, but seems more reliable. I will have a rental car (not my Gran Torino), but with the horror stories about DC traffic and parking, I'm hesitant to drive and concerned about being back in BWI with enough time to catch an evening flight home.
There are other options available and would like to get your thoughts on the best way to make the trip. Also, if I choose the Amtrak option would upgrading to business class be worth the extra cost or should I just get a reserved seat? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are coming here in August, the traffic wont't be bad at all. You can drive from BWI to Bethesda in under 45 minutes depending on the day and time. Avoid Fridays and rush hour, however any other day and time is great. In fact, once Congress is out of session, the traffic is easy. I go between Tysons and Bethesda all the time and the beltway for the past 2 weeks has been light (and that was during rush hour).
Time is money (right girls?) and if you can save 1 1/4 hour by driving, its well worth the time.
Thanks to all for the responses and advice. As tempting as it sounds to drive, think I'll play it safe and get on the MARC train to Union Station then catch a Red Line to my destination.
