Has anybody seen any of the recent movies about the hobby world?  I saw three movies on Netflix (Student Services, The Girlfriend Experience and A Call Girl).  All of these movies are told from the provider perspective but I found them to be very interesting since I am actually in this world now.  :-)

My favorite is the foreign film Student Services it is definitely the most graphic of them all.

How well do you all feel these movies interpret the real hobby world?  Does anybody know of any others that are good?

Thanks.

watch them yourself and figure out how well it relates or not to the hobby.  If you post back here, we would love to hear your take on it.  Even if you are just a hobbyist, I'm sure that you will be able to tell fact from fiction.

Even without watching it, I can probably predict that unless it's a documentary, it probably over glorifies the profession or over demonizing it. It is very hard to create a captivating drama without going to the extremes.

The truth, as you know, always lies somewhere in the middle.

I enjoyed this movie, found it somewhat realistic and not preachy. The scenes depicted there seemed a bit fantastical to me, but I have no idea what other men do in a room with girls (other than what they write about here.) What came through the most was the desparation, both on the part of the main character and the men she met. It's certainly not something I've encountered with the providers I've met. Reminded me a bit of Holly but less heartbreaking.

I have seen all of the movies I mentioned as my message originally stated.  I was just offering a topic for discussion.

Anyways, I felt that all of the dramatic circumstances that the lead actresses/providers faced in the movies were plausible to me (ex. abusive johns, shorting, pimps trying to violently break up indies, problems with reviewers trying to sabotage their business, keeping a real relationship while being a provider, etc.)

I actually have known a few of these scenarios from speaking with providers during my visits.

I thought that the Student Services movie was the best story and most graphic & dramatic.  I thought A Call Girl was very similar in plot to Student Services but was milder in graphic content and focused more on family dynamics (Single Father, Daughter is a provider).  The Girlfriend Experience stars real porn star Sasha Grey and was just a mess as far as story line goes but some parts were interesting.

I was hoping that someone else had an opinion after viewing  one or all of these movies or even a recommendation of others like them but it seems this is a topic that only interests me.

Ah well.  Thanks.

I agree.  I thought the lead actress gave a VERY believable acting performance all around.  Quite contrary to Sasha Grey who should probably return to porn acting instead of trying to become a mainstream actress.  She was emotionless in her role.  I'm not sure if that is what the script called for or if the director/producer was like fuck it let's just get this movie to the screen as fast as possible.  Thanks.

The only thing that I enjoy to watch about providers is "secret Diary of a Call Girl" and only because it's based off a real provider insight.  I have not seen student services but I have seen "A Call Girl", which was sad and depressing because I felt like she was doing it because that was the only way that she could make money while being a student. It seemed as though she enjoyed the outcome from being a provider ( owning a flat and paying for her schooling) but when she meet the clients she looked hopeless and unenthusiastic as though she was just going through the motions.

the GFE movie in my opinion was shallow and lifeless, I could see they were trying to portray the inner conflict those goes on in the mind of a provider and the intimate relationship a client and provider can have outside of sex but it feel short. I think this was because they were trying to make the film look super artsy and the choppy timeline did not help either.

I think these movies dont portray rell hobby life, they are just a projection of what the screenwriter or director thinks about the lifestyle.

By happenstance, I found a TV show on Netflix about the hobby in Australia called "Satisfaction."  It's a revolving story about the lives of six women who work at a (legal) Melbourne brothel.  On the nudity side, it's a bit below your typical cinemax potboiler.  But I found it, from the hobbyist perspective, an accurate depiction of the experience of going to an Australian brothel, down to the inspection of the equipment that starts the appointment.  In fact, some of the viewer comments questioning whether the elaborate inside of the building matched the boring outside, only demonstrated that they had never had the experience.

Of course, I can't say how accurate it is from the provider perspective, but it rings true.

You probably won't like Student Services either. It has a very similar student theme. I really appreciate your insights on the movie. You have a perspective that will always be just out of my reach. Thanks for sharing.

It's a French film with English subtitles.  Not graphic at all.  About a divorced businesswoman who hobbies instead of dating and her favorite provider guy who does it to make ends meet for his family. A very honest account about why people do this.

The Girl Friend Experience is the one of the three that I've seen and I found it's perspective interesting. Escorts have personal lives that have to be maintained but the nature of their work will intrude upon it. So how is a work/life balance maintained?
My reccommendation for a documentary on the hobby is "American Pimp". When I saw the trailer I thought it was a spoof but after I read the review I had to go see it, if for no other reason than to see what these guys had to say for themselves. It was everything I expected (big ego's and bigger jewelry) and more. The insights that pimps have on the human condition and it manipulation is amazing.

both "This Girl's Life" and "The Babysitters" were entertaining nonetheless.
