In Korea, it is traditional to eat seaweed soup on our birthdays.  Do you know why?

The soup is rich in iodine, iron, potassium, and calcium and helps cleanse the blood.  After a baby is born, the mother eats seaweed soup to replenish her body's vitamins and minerals to help her quickly recover after childbirth.

When the baby breast feeds, that means that through their mother's milk they are kind of eating the seaweed soup too as that is the source of nourishment.  So, eating this soup on our birthday is symbolic of that time.

Anyway, why am I talking about seaweed soup?  Because today is my birthday :-)

See you when I get back! :D

Happy Birthday pretty lady.  That was an interesting story, but I thought that like many of your posts I'd get to see a picture of your birthday suit, not your birthday soup.  Guess I'll have to pay another visit and see it in person..  Wishing you a lovely b-day!

Have a Happy Birthday!
Enjoy your soup!

Mi yook guk jo wah!!!!!

Happy Birthday!!!

I love seaweed and often snack on dried kombu seaweed. Currently, I drink a couple fruit smoothies through the day (no dairy, but fresh fruit blended with ice cubes in my vitamix). Im going to try this seaweed soup for a dinner over the weekend I think. Thanks for the tips. Looks like I found someone who loves healthy food as much as me ;-)
