Almost every lady and agency on this board will ask you for references or other type of screening in order to confirm an engagement. Most of you guys give them without batting an eye, but even some of you veterans might need to attend Reference 101.

1. When giving a reference, if you only provide her name, please describe the lady. Telling me "Ashley can vouch for me" is like tell me Jesus Christ can. I need to know which Ashley.

2. Be aware of your references schedule and or calendar if giving a reference which needs to be verified in under 24 hours. Some ladies only answer their phone/e-mail during certain hours. Or perhaps the lady is on travel and not responding as quickly as necessary.

3. If a lady is retired, be sure to ask her if you can still use her as a reference.

4. If you have changed your number or e-mail recently be sure to let one or both of the ladies know.

5. If using an agency to provide a reference make sure they are reference friendly.  I have had 4 different gentleman use a particular (and popular) agency, and each time the booker claims not to know him. I have a feeling it is in an attempt to protect/retain their clients. But this leaves me and the gentleman in an awkward position. As well, the guy no has no reference to use to see someone else.

Additional notes:
When someone calls me and says the following they are immediate red flags

1. "Oh I have to look the ladies up. I don't really remember their names."
2. "I know your friend and she said he would call you about me."
3. "I have never done this before, but I swear I am not a cop."
4. "I will pay you extra if we can skip that part"
5. "How about we meet in a public place?"
