One of these days. Don't know about visiting Puerto Plata but for a prearranged all inclusive vacation, Viking seems to provide all you could want. Not cheap though. For inexpensive hobbying I've heard Philipines and Thailand are great. Latin & South America I'm sure are quite reasonable but I'd want to have a guide.
The DR is on my list of places to go hobbying. The only problem is not knowing the language. I would prefer going with another hobbyist who has a good understanding of the language or has been before. The low cost airfare and no need for a visa makes it too easy not to go.
