I haven't even looked into ACA coverage yet, honestly.  But I'm sure I will sometime soon.  I do support national healthcare, or at least nonprofit healthcare.  I think the whole system needs to be scrapped and the guys who are in the pokey for all of the creative accounting and defrauding BS with Arthur Andersen, ENRON, etc., should get together and come up with a plan for a nonprofit healthcare system as a community service for screwing all of the people they did.  They're smart guys...put them to work for the good of others.
you want to see real corruption and the most number of people screwed, look to the gubment, particularly the keystone cops in power now.  At least when money is involved the assholes are predictable

The affordable care act seems to be a hit with providers.  Its important to have regular checkups for testing and treatments.

Come on man, every time I go on Washington Post.com I have to hear about the ACA.  Don't bring politics into this forum as I am sure many of us hobbyists who can afford the services of these fine women are Capitalists and lean right.

and I use planed parenthood as my primary care doctor at no cost to me.

Why would I PURCHASE  health insurance?

since they don't get it through this job.  So mainly some of the new or lower income providers here.  Just informing people of the options available for individual coverage.  When Craigslist still had their erotic services section, I would regularly post a list of free clinics for std testing because its good to know.

Ha, I wish I could get paid for shilling.  I just think we would all be better off if everyone who wants health care and regular checkups has the opportunity to get an affordable decent plan.

If you have insurance or are a hobbyist, then you were not the intended audience for my post

Didn't medicaid already provide for people with lower incomes?

Perhaps I'm missing something here.

In Virginia Medicaid is only available to people caring for a child, pregnant, visually impaired or disabled. The state lgislature refused to accept the federal funds for expansion of Medicaid. This will likely change with the election of McAuliffe for governor.

panties in a bunch over it.

As someone who knows a great deal about this plan, both in terms of seeing it designed and implemented I can tell you with all honesty that it is a disaster.  Here are the two and only two major important reasons this will not improve healthcare for our country.

1)  Cost - the promised reductions in costs will never materialize.  There is no way you are going to get the requisite number of young people to sign up and the IRS lacks any real ability to garnish wages or place liens for the tax/penalty phase.  Without that young, healthy participation the system is not going to work - period.

2)  Doctors - you already do not have enough doctors accepting medicaid/medicare.  This law dumps millions more onto that pile.  Who is going to treat them?  Despite all attempts to reach out to doctors, there has been little headway in getting a greater acceptance to participate.  In fact it is the opposite.  Many are convinced that rates they already consider laughable will only get worse, placing them in a position that is not economically viable.  Add in the fact that the medical community did not get anything in the way of malpractice tort reform into this and well, needless to say they are not on board.

That's about as non-partisan a viewpoint as I can provide given my involvement and numerous discussions with the key players.

let me say to you those are two valid points BUT the alternative of doing NOTHING by both parties for almost 20 yrs (and  I mean simple measures not requiring a "comprehensive plan")since the last  attempt  for reform in 1993 is equally troubling. Costs have already been rising way past wage growth , inflation, CPI. Even with an MSA (if it has catastrophic component or other coverage. are they all the same?) you still need to make enough to pay into it.

This law can be changed or amended in the coming years so when I hear "the end of healthcare..."
 I just..well, you know.

We need a big pool of participants. The natural progression is toward a "medicare-for-all" or Canadian system. It will eventually happen.
