So many good points in this thread! I still feel the Asian agencies are a very good overall value in the market (I'm defining value in this case as price, quality, availability and reliability).
One can find cheaper providers, but you're liable to be in a sticky sheet motel with a questionable or flaky provider that smells like dope or booze or worse.
On the other hand, one can find amazingly beautiful providers that treat you like a long lost lover but they're easily twice the price, if not triple. Good luck getting a same day appointment.
Asian agencies seem to have the sweet spot of generally good quality providers at prices that might be going up but aren't astronomical. And I can usually get a same day (sometimes within hours) appointment.
Now add in overhead. Housing and rental prices in the NOVA/DC area are increasing and the agencies are in condos, presumably rented. There's a fixed cost that is going to be passed on to the customer. I don't know about yall but every time I fly I'm like, WTF with ticket prices? There's another fixed cost that will pass through directly to the customer - the ladies have to get here somehow. I'm sure there are others.
Someone mentioned the customer base might be one and done, drive-bye (as opposed to us conosures here at TER). I hadn't thought of that but it does make some sense and would definitely work against an organized attempt to put downward price pressure on the market. The boycott base would be small and the customer base would still be large.
Finally, I'm trying to think of any organized price boycotts that have been successful. I'm sure there are some, but I can't think of them. Boycotts for a cause, civil rights in the 50s/60s and blood diamonds in Africa come to mind, can have an impact. But a straight price boycott? Like I said, I'm not aware of any that have worked. I'm not saying "it's never been done so it'll never work" I'm just saying when you add in all of the other factors, it's not looking good.
What would work is a disruptor (think Sprint disrupting AT&T in the 80s, discount airlines like Southwest in the 90s, or Mint Cellular today). I just don't know how you do that in this business.
Anyway, fun discussion! Happy Hobbying and stay safe!
