For any number of reasons, I've been out of the hobby for a while and it seems like requiring deposits has become more common than before.  This seems like a bad idea if you don't know the girl, but some providers are pretty clear about "no deposit, no appointment."  

I don't have any problems booking 1 or 2HR sessions from an agency or P411 without coughing up the 20% - 50% deposit. Oh, in case the request for photo ID, DL, LinkedIn, employment, dick picture, fingerprints and social security, they are not the norm either!!

I haven't seen anyone in recent memory that required a deposit. There are plenty of solid providers around the DC/Nova area that don't require them.

I would love to know who brought you to your knee’s regarding deposits since you are so vehemently opposed to them. I’m glad someone made you bow down to her will and requirement. This one will go down in history. Hope at the end of the day you don’t regret it, that would be hysterical. So who is it you’re giving up a deposit for? Please tell. She has to be hot as hell for this change of character.

I am not "vehemently" opposed to deposits. I have never said that.

But what I remember of your posts you thought it was crazy to give a deposit and was opposed to them. Maybe I need to go back and read better. Anyway there are a few worth the advanced gift and can be trusted to give what they promised. Everyone’s biggest issue is when the appointment doesn’t happen and of no fault of the client and they don’t refund.  

That very much depends upon the method used to provide the deposit.

Unless you're mailing cash, there is an electronic connection that can be traced with a subpoena with verifiable bank accounts.

Buying a gift card with cash seems pretty safe to me.

How do you think they spend the gift cards?  Could be in the tens of thousands.  I know I wouldn't want 50% of my income in gift cards.  

Some accept $100 Amazon gift cards as deposit. You buy with cash and then give them the code.

Useful things like Amazon or Walmart can be spent on almost anything.  
You could also give Apple or Google gift cards, that would be awesome for a new phone, laptop, storage space, streaming fees, etc

II e never had any issues because real men need instructions. Lol Smile for me! Do your homework because lots of scammers out there. Professional women of leisure with integrity are a rare breed these days.

I’m reading this and SMH about deposits. This is a ridiculous trend that I never comply with. I’m not buying a car here! And yeah, clients do cancel sometimes but that’s the cost of doing business and every provider (if smart) should figure that into the profit equation. If guys would stop paying deposits, Providers would stop asking for them, plain and simple. There have been a couple providers I see posting here that I wanted to see but required a deposit, so oh well, I’ll never meet them and I’m good with that. Also, an upscale provider canceled on my twice within 2-hours of the appointment after I had rearranged my schedule. Do you think I was offered a discount after her last minute cancellations? Hell no! Guys, smarten up and cut this ridiculous deposit giving shit out! Again, if everyone refuses to make deposits, the requirement will disappear.

Seriously, who is going to subpoena your bank statements? If for the sake of argument, you send  a provider an electronic payment what does that mean? That’s not illegal.

Say for example, LEO wants to build a case against an escort with all those transactions.  There are no burner bank accounts.  

If you give an unknown provider a deposit you are asking to be ripped-off.  There are several deposit scammer providers advertising on TER right now.  There are countless accounts from hobbyists getting no-shows after paying in advance.
I have had over 400 sessions with providers and never given a deposit...  

not everyone is out there to scam, a deposit ensures our incall is covered in case that you NCNS, because this has happen a lot of times.

Or course, not everyone is a scam.  I did say "If you give an unknown provider a deposit you are asking to be ripped-off.", key words: "unknown provider".  A provider with a stellar reputation and dozens of reviews might be able to ask for deposits, but she shouldn't have to because she has already screened her clients.
Right now there are ads on the TER AD boards from providers with no reviews and the provider wants pre-payment even though she has already been called out for no-showing.  If the thief even is a "she" because we have no proof "she" even exists because "she" never shows up to the appointment because why would "she" if "she" already has the money.
Two simple rules:
Only see providers with reviews.  And no deposits.

Not true - you can't say that without specifying the type of deposit.

Any transfer other than a cash bought gift card is traceable.  I agree with you on the cash gift cards, hence TER's preferred payment method.  I guess you could also post her the cash deposit that would also be ok.  Why risk a call/visit from LEO to explain the nature of the transaction, after the escort gets busted five years from now.  That's just MY take on deposits.

I think you’ve been watching too much Law & Order. Extremely unlikely that LEO would subpoena a hobbyist for their bank statement (and such a subpoena would go to the hobbyist’s bank not to the individual) to trace an electronic transaction to “build” a case against a provider (LEO would likely already have the provider’s statements, and the provider would need to explain away the transaction). Again it is not unlawful to give someone money, and a record of an e-transaction alone is not indicia that the transaction was in furtherance of something nefarious. I understand that some are hesitant about making deposits and records of it (more likely that such records would be brought up in a divorce proceeding), but it’s borderline farcical to suggest that LEO would call/visit someone over it.

Why use a burner phone?  Why not write a check or leave your business card on the counter as you leave?  Because we don't want to leave a trace back to us.  You are correct giving money to someone is completely legal, but money for sex is illegal.  The deposit puts you in proximity of the escort.  Just being questioned or charged is a loss.  Think Ashley Mad.  
 Cash makes you invisible(ish).  BTW, I'd be more concerned that the escort gave you away for a better deal than her covering for you.  It may be that I've watched a lot of law and order back in the day; I prefer the episodes with Mr. Big and Hoss.  Bottomline - it's an unnecessary risk in an already risky transaction.  Not to even mention, what if the escort absconds with the deposit.  I obviously have a different risk tolerance than you, but YOU DO YOU.  

“Think Ashley Mad.” Let’s see (checks notes) Ashley Mad was a data breach/hack and had nothing to do with LEO (excellent example). I’m not making an argument that’s pro deposit, just that you don’t have a clue on the law enforcement.

In my limited experience, deposits are a bad idea. I usually just avoid except in special circumstances (e.g., a 48-hour tour guide/overnight bedmate GF in Thailand).  

No one is at jeopardy for sending & accepting gifts.
