Mac`s the way to go. I made the switch a little over a year ago myself. Zero problems. I really am thinking about buying one for birthday but  meanwhile you can get mac book for 800.00 bucks at Micro Center in Rockville, thats a 200.00 savings. goodluck

Looking to find out which software provides the most bang for your buck. Any suggestions?

Muchos Gracias!

It updates and quarantines bad files.  Very good stuff.

I'm really clueless as to which ones would be best for me. Priced from 20 bucks to over 60.

I was plagued with the same problem. Finally gave up and got a Mac about one year ago. No trouble whatsoever since. Mac's operating system is presently immune.

Feel free to gift me one! My bday is coming up! ;)

I used Nod32 and now I use AVG

How would you like your gift delivered ??

A good balance of protection and performance is:

Avira AntiVir (Like a good condom)

Avira Antivirus. The Best Free antivirus you can get

isnt working. I tried AVG but every site i go to asks you to sign up for some other offer in order to get AVG for free.

I've been using AVG for a few years and never had any issues.

fine for me. So you already have a virus?

Try it from the dowload site.

I opened an email the other day and it wasnt from the sender. The email account had been Hi-Jacked or whatever. I dont understand all of the technical terms. Anyhow, when i spoke to him he said MSN told him to make sure to run a virus scan etc.. My AVG and Norton expired. So i want to make sure i'm not at risk. Been meaning to do this..Procrastination at its best! :)

Mea,

Kaspersky is my choice...

First had Symantec - updates were a day lagging
Used McAfee for a couple years - not as rubust as I needed
Now I use Kaspersky - I tried it 3 years ago and so far I won't change it....

Friends working at Health and Human Services (HHS) recently told me that a year ago they switched to Kaspersy because it was faster at finding problems and much more robust for dealing with Skyware, Adware, etc...

*HHS is NIH, FDA, etc... They deal with Personal Info, SSN, Medical records....

kaspersky is very highly rated, but the other suggestions, i.e., AVG are also good.

Remember, you can run more than one antivirus package at the same time, and many people do (I do).

But the best thing is to use safe surfing habits.

I personally almost never use Windows when surfing, and when I do, always Firefox, never IE.

I mostly use my MAC to surf, or, when using my PC, I boot into Linux rather than Windows.

All depends on how often signature gets updated. Free AVG has about week delay paid one, you get as soon as they update.

Get a Mac.

Nothing is totally safe but I've never had a virus in 16 years of using an Apple. Good luck!

They are all about the same.  Best cheap one, zone alarm- free with option to upgrade.  You can pick up a good deal on McAfee, symantec, or other usally with rebates for free or almost free.

Just pick one and keep it up-to-date.
