Sight seeing, mom and pop restaurants and more.....

Last year, I had the opportunity to visit the DC area UTR and I had a magnificent time. I'm planning another UTR trip the first part of 2012. My last visit, I stayed in an upscale hotel at Dupont Circle. The location was great due to the subway convenience. Although the hotel was gorgeous, it seemed a little too small and cozy for escorting. The staff was very friendly, but I couldn't help but feel like they knew that I was a companion. With that being said, I'm looking for some advise from the locals on hotel accommodations with easy access to the subway, sight seeing recommendations and some great restaurants that typically only the locals know about in the Dupont Circle area.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
