They had brothels in Germany for as long as I can remeber. I always thought prostitution was legal in Germany. They always had red-light district in each city/town. Hamburg had so much flesh running around in the early 1980, it was like being in a candy store.

source for this info was http://www.theweekmagazine.com , check this out:

Berlin

Government as pimp: The German government has threatened to cut unemployment benefits to a woman who refused to take a job as a prostitute. The 25-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, is an out-of-work computer programmer. When a Berlin brothel owner saw her information in a database of job seekers and offered her a position, she refused on moral grounds. But the government said she couldn’t continue to accept benefits if there was a job available to her. Prostitution has been legal in Germany for two years, so brothels are considered just another workplace. The unemployment rate nationwide is 9 percent.

Posted it on the porn star board, but I know not everyone reads that board, so wanted to share it with you also. Crazy the diffrence between here and other countries isnt it? Here they send you to jail for being one, over there you refuse to be one, they send you to the unemployment line, falls under the heading strange, but true... or maybe not??? lol.

Did you check the site out, some really funny stuff on there, some of it so strange your like "Bull shit!" but still very funny.

Yeah, I think it's been legal a little longer than 2 years also, or at least in certain parts of Germany, so that was what raised my eyebrow a little, but when you read some of the other stuff, that story seems tame.

Thought I was crazy...I remember going window shopping in Germany..

Could of sworn I heard this story on the news or news show. I think it is true the lady would lose her unemployment bennifits because she didn't take the job at a local establishment. She thought it was for waitressing and later found out it wasn't and that she would be a provider.

Two students in the school that I teach in proved that this is a myth by getting a sheep's stomach from a butcher and filling it with Pop Rocks and Pepsi, then they measured the gas pressure against the tensile strength of the stomach. It wasn't even close. A human stomach apparently has greater tensile strength than a sheep's so the story is definately false.

I drank a coke and ate some pop rocks when I was something like 13 years old, so I knew it was false for a long time now, man I loved pop rocks when I was a kid

Now you have me questioning it - I this it was shown to me by my SO from the Wash Post. I'll have to look up the archives now.

slipry; I thought I read it somewhere also. I might be wrong.

The media take care to try and double check sources on stories they originate, but when another outlet originates the story it's easier to pass along because they are reporting (factually) that someone else reported something.  The content doesn't have to be remotely true.  Ron (above) provided the link to the debunking of the story.

So the old saying if its "in print it must" be true. It a shame if we see it on paper it automatically true, not true half the time. First page headlines/ twelve pages retraction..
