I posted this on the General Dis board, but wanted to mention it here as well, in my local community.

I am in Houston and I had my first scary experience. A guy came to see me, never went thru with anything (serivces, etc.) stating he was too nervous and upon leaving tried to rob me at gun point.

Well, after the initial shock and him asking me if I had ever been robbed before I realized something...He had on a hat and glasses the entire time. I took this to mean he was scared of being found out and so forth. I tried to play as cool as possible. He leaned in, warned me not to scream and proceed to take off my "Princesa" necklace. I told him to pull it and he said no he wanted to take it off. So he put the gun in his pants and took his time trying to unfasten it.
Then I got gutsy or crazy and said, "Hell, just go ahead and shoot me. Go ahead and add a murder rap to your record. You know they have the death penalty in Texas."  He was so shocked he just kinda stood there for a second. I grabbed his hat and glasses, threw them on the floor. He scrambled to get them and I ran out of the hotel room. He proceeded to run out as well, and ran in the opposite direction.
I was extremely lucky. I just lost a necklace.

Be safe ladies. I know I have plenty of moxie, but I do not encourage anyone to do what I did. In an instant made a decision based on how I read his behvior  and I was lucky to have turn out in my favor.

Some form of verification would go a long way at discouraging would be robbers.

Sounds like something broke down in your screening process. Did he have references ? If not do you have his information so you can contact LE. The next provider might not be so lucky.

Sorry to hear, please move to a different hotel or room if you can and come home safely....

Keep your eyes open, and beware of your surroundings.......

What a looser....Be safe hun, and glad you had the guts to do what you did but next time it isnt worth your life so just make sure not to leave anything of value in your room with you.

and I am. I was on the 24th floor. So by the time he got downstairs I had already called the front desk. They caught him and the police came and arrested him. But still no necklace. It's evidence.

As for screening, it came thru okay...From the whole thing, I am not sure what he was thinking. maybe he saw my diamond and gold necklace and figured what the hell, before I go I should try to rob her.

Such as an Angel, you are more then lucky - blessed would be about right. Those who walk this path are usually stupid and unstable. Most don't think - they react - and usually in a harsh manner with no remorse. I'm just glad you are ok and have this for a lesson we all need to keep up on...

Hopefully we can get together Saturday night and I can take your mind off of your bad experience.

You of ALL people.  Why do the worst things seem to always happen to the BEST people?  Gosh I'm glad to hear you are okay, sweetie.  If you want to vent, you know my email address.  This generally isn't something one gets over in a day or two.

 Maybe all you gals can learn something from this.  I know you want to look your best for us and we really appreciate it.  However, it may be best to make it look tasteful without looking expensive.  Nobody wants to make themselves a "mark" for criminals, especially these days.
