Motel vs. Hotel

I had an appointment this week through one of the major D.C.-based agencies I've used several times in the past. Usually, they set their girls up in fairly nice brand-name hotels in the Tyson's area, but this time they sent me to what looked more like the type of motor inn you'd find off an interstate. The door for every room opened up onto the outside.

Upon seeing this, I balked and reluctantly cancelled the date. The prospect of anyone on the street being able to see me enter and exit a specific room made me nervous. I asked the booking lady if this was the type of place they were using now, and she said they use whatever they're given (priceline, maybe?).

Anyway, how does everyone else feel about this type of situation? Was it much ado about nothing?

Personally, I would never stay or do an outcall to any hotel that is below 3 stars  ie a hotel that has a number or a color in the name.

If I do not feel safe and sexy, it will reflect during my session.  There is nothing sexy about plaid comforters and floral drapes with DNA evidence from activity in the 80s ;).

I need my lighting and complete atmosphere to be my best.

And I advise ladies to never stay there.  For a variety of reasons.  I suspect the agency that places their ladies there could care less about safety...just $$$$$

"Understanding is a three-edged sword. Your side, their side, and the truth."
                                                       - Vorlon Proverb -

Here's a few considerations which may or may not apply to this specific instance but, should be added to the mix. Keep in mind, I deal with hospitality businesses almost daily so the trends we see are different than most. However, to anyone who books rooms on almost a daily basis, what I'm about to point out will not come as a surprise.

1) Time of the day determines which facility gets used. Try getting a room before noon in many places. You SOMETIMES can, but most of us do not run a business on "sometimes". In such cases, you go with whoever has the highest reliability. By the way, front desk people are notorious for telling you that you can get a room but, when you get there and there are serious delays.

2) One hour clients don't expect the Ritz. Get real. This is a business. In some areas, hotels after taxes are $120, if you're lucky. In many cases, that's 45% of the total fee before the rocket has left the pad.
There is this perception that Agencies are rolling in it which, is so far from the truth. Like any other business, we have fixed and variable costs and this industry is down just like everyone else. A smart Agency owner knows what they are and uses the appropriate hotel for the fee level of the call. If not, then frankly, you will go out of business sooner or later.

3) Online venues such as Priceline or hotwire are crap shoots unless you know how to manipulate their system. In such cases, both parties have to deal with the results.

4) Events, bookings, time of the year and acts of God all play a part in trying to get a hotel. Sometimes, booking a room on a given date and time in a particular area is a bitch. Why? Who the heck knows; it just is. I stopped trying to understand it years ago. It happens and as a business owner, I have to just flex with it and do the best I can. However, there have been many times it's bitten me and other Agencies on the ass.

As for hotels with outside entrances, there are pro and cons for us and for the client. The basis for those considerations are completely different (that's a rant for another time). However, there are SPECIFIC cases where, from our side of the line, they are preferable depending upon geographical area.

I've had three dates at motel-style places (outside entrances) with indies and this did not bother me.  One nice thing is you don't have to go through a lobby to get to your room.  Both of these places were in safe areas with plenty of parking too.  And the rooms were clean and comfortable.  If indies can do well in these types of places, agencies can too.  After all, you're not paying for the magnificent lobbies and glass elevators.

Interesting insights. I guess what threw me the most was that this hotel was significantly different from all the others I've been sent to by the several different agencies I've tried. Maybe it was just the luck of the draw.

If I had my preference, I'd always opt for a bigger hotel with multiple entrances and exits. The outdoor thing just sets me on edge.

...is what I am as far as hotels go.... I can't do motels where a person can just drive up to my room anymore. Could be much to do about nothing but yeah I try not to stay in places like that anymore.

Tend to agree...  motels with numbers in their name can be a bit scary, but, usually Safe!  Nobody there cares, it is business and that is all.  Where I lived before, near a west coast capitol city,  a particular motel had a great reputation, depending on you POV, but, no one Ever got busted there, and, it was comfortable to park and walk to the door.  Far more so than me limping by the desk in a high rise.. The comfort to me was knowing the lady got a bigger cut of the donation due to the reasonable cost of the room.  And, if you party in mid-day, like I do, the parking is great!

I sense that we might have used the same agency, on the same day and perhaps the same girl.  I too was nervous especially with the so many rental/dealer cars parked in many of the spaces in the back.  I actually got there about 15 mins early to recon the area for LE.  Interestingly, my girl complained about the hotel as well.

Although the room appeared clean, the bed and bedding was old.  The soft mattress threw me off rhythm as we both kept sinking into the mattress.  Good thing I was quick, or else our knees would have hit the floor.  Without a doubt, I would have paid a little extra to spend my time in a quality room with a quality bed.

That said, I still had a great time as my girl was incredibly beautiful and accommodating.

I've had an experience when the door was outside but that was a nighttime appt. I had considered calling it off but stayed. The awkward thing was waiting to approach the room since a family was heading to the room next to where I was going.  The only other occurrence was an invitation to a swinger's event.

Been lucky in that all the ladies, to date, have been in decent places.

When I'm traveling I normally go to an extended stay hotel. Besides having side doors a few are detached clusters of rooms so there's no lobby to worry about. It can also serve as a temporary studio. I like the idea of having a small kitchenette as well. (Does that qualify as snobish?)

In the dollar sense, some can be had in the $70-80 range during weekend stays.

i will never get a motel. I am a newbie as a indie but since i started i always try to get a 3 stars or higher hotel. This is for my and my friends safety and of course pleasure! A few times I had a problem with my reservation and had to  get a less then desirable place. What i found is smelly duvets, beds falling over and a foul odor overall. That is just not right!  Also some motels have what is called a Le partnership because there are known to have "working girls" there....being paranoid or "hotel snob"  doesn't hurt.
