Cruise Director: Rotating Guy & Girl MOD Team, A potential nightmare or a good idea?red_smile

What if admins decide to rotate mods every now and then, with one hobbyist and one female mod team in order keep the board "balanced"? In fact, they announced the intention to do just that on some boards shortly.

Pro's: see the link below. But the gist of it seems to be

1) there would be a board that is balanced by both genders.
2) Newbies are more welcomed.
3) Everyone gets a chance and not one person is a dictator
4) etc. read the link

Con's:

1. The female might be a provider..... and she can see all our aliases.  a conflict of interest.
2. Rotating mods around means  more exposure of everyone's aliases to more people.
3. Rotating mods means everyone's IP addresses may be exposed to more people. Less privacy
4. All our posts we've ever posted under every alias is exposed to more people on the boards.
5. Given enough time, maybe just about every known-hobbyist in the community will know everyone's aliases. This may scare people from posting honest stories , especially those that really need help.
6. There's always the LE threat. This makes it one step easier for an LE to become mod.  Recall it only takes x-years to meet the mod requirement.  Now, see point 3, regarding IP address exposure.

Even though fugly might be ugly (never met the guy so I wouldn't know), I trust him with all my aliases. He even knows where I used to work and all my hobby related drivel & nonsense under all of my aliases.  But I'm pretty sure I would not give the same kind of trust to Johnny Cum Lately or GI Jane whom I have never heard of, stepping up to the throne.

(Maybe people can vote a lady whom they fully trust? Such as a well-reviewed GI-jane that starts with C and middle initial S, I wouldn't mind if she's co-mod one day but then there's still that conflict of interest issue.)

I don't have any aliases, but I do use them from time to time. Hopefully the admins have already identified this issue before implementing their ideas. For example, the moderator (i.e. hobbyist or provider) can only see the alias name, but not their handle, and an indicator will appear to the alias name who has violated the rules. For example, an alias who used two alias under the same thread, and an indicator will notify the modifier about this.

Another concern is being bias. For example, one hobbyist may be bias to posting another hobbyist thread because he dislike his past comments. Or, a provider denying another providers ad because of competition.

This thread has also been discussed at other regional threads, the GD board, RO board, and plenty of other boards. There, you will find many feed backs.

As for me, if that does occur here on the DC or MD board, then I will simply not participate in the boards. Kinda sucks though, since I do give much feedback to B&S threads :(

Typically I post with aliases. But I guess, I wouldn't be posting anymore. I post a lot...

My question is if the MODS of Florida and Atlanta Board (boards under consideration for rotating mods) can see the handles of users from other boards?  In other words, once a person becomes MOD, can he see under the hood of any board?

I really can't imaging FUGLY getting replaced with someone else. He is awesome...

the Mods see who owns the alias.  It's the way they figure out who does two handles in a thread.  It's the way they keep users from attacking each other for stupid reasons.  It's the only way a Mod can actually moderate one of these boards.  Without visibility into who is saying what about whom, well...  And trying to write code to alert the mods to that, that ain't gonna happen either.  (sorry to see you go McDonald - I've liked your posts - at least the ones I can tell are yours.....)

Now, there is a specific division of labor, each mod is only able to see the aliases of posters, when they post on their boards.  so, if you've never posted with an alias on the Atlanta board, you are safe from the Atlanta mod knowing that alias is yours when they are surfing the DC board(all the cool mod tools are removed when a mod surfs a board that is not his/hers).

An unwritten rule is that the Mods do not moderate boards that are in their hobbying area.  It keeps the  mod from having power to try to get discounts or whatever because they have the mod power.  The Administrators of the board are also pretty good at looking at a person's history on the board, before allowing them to become a mod - they have actually done a very good job of getting decent mods in and when they go bad, clearing them out.

The moderators job is one that is unenviable.  They typically spend in excess of 4 hours per day, reading through the drivel and allowing posts, and removing others, etc.  Not to mention all of the PMs they get because someone feels slighted, or wants to bitch about another provider/hobbyist who is mean to them.  Moderating these boards is much like being a pre-school teacher.

My hat is off to those who serve in that capacity (and those who have done it in the past!)

Looks like admins listened and defined it as just being a role to encourage fun / friendly discussion.
The CD position will NOT have moderator powers.

Maybe admins were sober afterall. :)

I remember someone brought it up a few years ago.

they will have no way of looking at your personal info. That's not what their here for anymore. Have you ever thought of what would happen if a moderated got caught up in some legal battle. How about if their favoritism was looked upon as a part of "a continuing enterprise to facilitate prostitution" .  Did that come out of my mouth. I'm a real dumb blonde but very street smart and for me this is a very smart move on TER's part and all of us are much safer for it. They come down on a Mod all info available to them could be in serious danger. Oh, that's right brother love. But what happens when the car is towed out of the driveway, all bank accounts are frozen and your house is no longer a viable asset for you to get money for legal expenses. All this because you volunteered your free time. The times they are changing and new rules are coming for all on the internet and TER is smart enough to look ahead before it happens. All the bumps in the road will happen before the chaos of those laws take effect.
