I went into session today, came out and had 16 missed calls.
Between calls, voicemails, texts, emails, PMs, Preferred411 mail, fuckin' Twitter DMs- omg ! LOL
It gets outrageous!
You must consider than an independent who works without assistance must not only field volumes of communication and suss out legitimate inquiries from nonsense, she must schedule, play and take care of her known guests via friendly communication to let her best guys know she's always thinking of them.
I think that 24-72 hours is completely reasonable turnaround time. If your schedule doesn't allow you to plan appointments in advance that is perfectly fine....but sometimes I'm really taken aback by clients who expect & even demand that their communications be returned immediately for their last minute / same day appointment requests.
Per your scenario though-I think that if a client and provider have already established contact and mutual interest in meeting confirmation of appointments to occur within 24 hours should be rather quick- back and forth vollying, both should be paying attention to their email/PM/IM whatever in anticipation of tying down loose ends.
I think that if an appointment is scheduled a few to several days/weeks out there should be less pressure but reasonable attentiveness.
If a client is contacting me attempting to coordinate say, an outcall during his business travel a week in advance I want to know that I must carve out his window of time, but when he contacts me and asks for the time I've already put it on my calendar in pencil so there is no sense of pressure or urgency until closer in.
I think everyone should approach these things with respect for the others time & interest....but also with mutual understanding & patience.
