Colombian? That's the only other I know..

I mean you consume any media, most cartels talk is about Mexican cartels, and yes some other cartels like the Colombian cartels have dominated the drug trade in the past - like the Medellín Cartel.

Now don't make this about the Mexican people.. Because it's not..

After making appointments and seeing providers, I received some threatening text messages from what they say is a "Cartel". the sent brutal pics of murders. They are trying to extort money from me with these threatening texts with my full name nd address. Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven’t had an issue with this, but there’s a thread from about a year ago about the exact same issue.

Thanks! They used the same language he posted in his post!

Never heard of anyone getting hurt by ignoring the threats -- then again I suppose if they are real maybe we wouldn't so that might not be a good indicator.

But the general consensus has been it is just a scam and ignore it.

Yeah I suspect its a scam. My real concern is that they texted me my real address! The horrible photos of murdered men didn't bother me as much as them somehow having my address.

Then you gave them something that allows searches to link to your real world info.

You might consider reviewing what your provided and then doing some searches -- including using some of the pay services -- to research yourself to see what you find with the info provided. I think you said you didn't provide anyone any real info to ID you with.

If OP gave his personal phone number (and not a burner, as most veterans do) there are a number of services someone can use (Been Verified, White Pages, etc.) to do a reverse lookup for info.

There’s a nominal fee involved, but when a scammers “hit” on someone willing to pay the extortion scam, it’s worth it.

These cockroaches will move  on  when they realize they can't extort money from you. The same thing happened to me , because I was using my real world personal phone.  They eventually stopped threatening me and of course , I got a burner phone from Best Buy

You think real Mexican cartel calls themselves "the cartel" LOL..

Anyhoo, how does the "cartel" have your real name and real home address?

I'd guess he turned that info over as part of a screening. Probably a somewhat shady provider too.

where he is going with that, but my point is that it's just a bunch of scammers trying to swindle him.

The real cartel will just come and chop your head off, and unless you are in drug business, is there any chance we would be dealing with the Mexican cartel by going and seeing some provider for couple hundred bucks? LOL..

never gave my drivers license or any ID to a provider/agency! If they asked for that, I would tell them NO and ask if there was another way...if not..I walked away!

While I agree it's unlikely that any such organization would refer to itself as "the cartel", I am wondering why you jump to the Mexican association rather than any of a bunch of other options.

You gotta man up and deal with them face to face.

If anyone is using a personal phone they should stop. Use a pay cash monthly burner phone

Yeah, just ignore it can and get a burner phone.

This sucks. Sorry you're living this. I would like to suggest to you that you start a thread in the GD section with a link to this thread or a brand new one describing your experience. This is not a local concern.
