Lessons from the bust...

...that has been much discussed here for a couple of days and is in the Post this morning, seem to be apparent from the news coverage.

Once upon a time, I had some experience with these types of LE issues, as a lawyer and in other ways.  What strikes me here is that the lady seems like she might have had a few people who had an interest in seeing her go down, an ex-husband she made claims against, people at work she had sued, disgruntled colleagues and employees, etc.

LE is basically lazy, and not all that smart.  They are also not all that interested in this hobby, contrary to what might be thought.  There is too little return for what takes a lot of effort on their part.

Somebody dropped dime and spared them the effort.  My educated guess is that one of those people who might have had it in for her spotted her ad, and made the calls.

I think it's a lesson for providers, more than anything.  I don't think it's symbolic of any wide spread effort, election year or not.

Post also reports Latino brothels being busted in Monkey County; 30 bucks for 15 minutes.  Also, probably not a concern for us here.

There have been busts in my area (Pr. Wm. County and Manassas, Manassas Park) occasionally ovber the last 2-3 years..  Most were Hispanic/Oriental.

I wouldn't exactly say that someone dropped a dime and SPARED them the effort.  According to today's Sunpapers, the investigation went on for nine(9) months.  While it was her 'ex' who was bitter and started it all, this IS an election year.  The LE BS will continue up to election day.

When they say that "an investigation went on for nine months", they don't mean that some cops just spent 270 days checking this whole thing out.

What they mean is that back in March, somebody dropped a dime on her (OK, it was almost certainly her ex, but it sounds like other folks might have been pissed off at her), and after some folks with the Howard County PD got around to it, they finally decided to send in an undercover officer.    If they'd really been in a hurry, it would have taken a few days to look at her website, make an appointment (she was notorious for being difficult to contact), get a warrant, and then send in a volunteer undercover officer.

This is getting more attention in the media from the "Mayflower Madam"-like aspect of the whole situation -- after all, it's not often that you get to write a story about a 41-year-old woman with a PhD and a half-million dollar house in a cul-de-sac running an escort business out of her home.  If she'd been 26, working out of a leased apartment, and she'd only had a BA in English or something like that, it wouldn't have made even a tiny ripple in the local media.
