The following is an excerpt of a “Reader Comment” appearing on page 4 of the New York Metropolitan secion of today’s New York Times. FYI:

At age 49, I became a call girl in Washington, D.C.. I was told that there was a “market” for “mature” women. My clientele stayed at the Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt, J.W. Marriot, Willard, the Mayflower,etc.. and I worked out of my art and book filled apartment. It was the best job I ever had in my life. I met wonderful people, some of whom I am still in touch with. I wish I was still doing it. It was a greater education than four years of college and decades of globe trotting.
I learned about myself. I learned about boys, men, girlfriends, wives and human nature. My self-esteem and self-respect soared. I don’t regret this part of my life for a moment. I only wish I had done this sooner.
This isn’t a career for everyone. Some girls and women become “bitter and twisted” or end up involved in drugs or the wrong element. I came out of this unscathed and I attributed that to listening to my intuition, not being greedy, and being a New York City girl.

However, this shows up on Page 4 of the Metro section - not where the majority of the readers will see it.  If this had come from a stereotypical burned out "crack-ho" who dissed all of her clients, it would have been on the front page and the lead story on all TV news channels...
