It seems most agencies need your real last name to book you.
Is there any risk to giving your real last name? I've worked for the government in the past, and may need to get a security clearance in the future.
If the agency gets popped and they have kept your info, of course you could have a problem. Most of them "claim" they dont keep your information but I dont care for Russian Roulette myself.

From my perspective, getting arrested isn't the issue and I agree that it also isn't likely to happen. What can and does happen is that the client list somehow becomes public. A few years back, a ring in Phoenix got busted and their client list was published on a local news web page. The purpose was to embarrass any well-known locals who were on the list. If you are on the list, just the fact that it is out there must suck.
I also have a drivers license with his name on it and one of his business cards. He doesn't know it, but he leads a very exciting life.

Just kidding about the ex-wife's divorce lawyer, but don't think I haven't thought about it. BTW, nobody needs to use an official state issued document; you can get a very official-looking ID badge with anyone's name on it. Most providers are not going to look past the picture and the name, if that. And I think that's the point made by Dicky. You don't need to give our your real name when there are so many other options.
Even if a provider or agency wants a work number, it's usually just to confirm their employment. Since I know that the ex's lawyer never takes phone calls, anyone calling the firm will find out that yes, he works there, but no, he is not available. And I actually DO have a bunch of his business cards. Hmmmmmmmmmm....perhaps I could do a little business development for him with the ladies.

I have tried to pull the answer from veteran hobbyists without success.
If a provider or agency pushes too hard, I move on. Not worth it.
The ultimate question is how to protect both hobbyist and provider. The current practices ain't cuttin' it. Bad for both.
