Hey all,

I am a newbie in search some much needed advice.  I have been a member of this site for a couple of months now.  I had my "coming of age" hobbyist experience around that same time frame while on travel in SLC.  That very first experience was with an independent provider through bp.  Amazingly enough it was a great experience.  However, in retrospect, it was probably a pretty dumb thing to do since the provider had no reviews or anything on ter.  But, that's what happens when mini me is making the decisions.

I am ready to start venturing again here shortly, but I have run through an issue all too familiar with us newbie folk, the verification process.  Here in DC it seems like every reputable provider requires some sort of verification in order to spend time with you.  I can understand why, I would do it too if I were them.  My issue so far has been that the verification sites like p411, dc, etc. are rather risky for me as I am a govt. employee (non LE!).  Us govt. employees need some lovin' too.

I guess I am here to ask my fellow board members any suggestions as to how to handle the verification process when you are a public servant?  Also, are there any reputable providers in the dc area that are newbie friendly?  I need to increase my provider portfolio so I can be referenced in the future with no problem.  I don't want to bottom feed off of bp, not with all these pretty ladies on TER!

Someone please, show us newbies some love.

Thank you all for your time.

If you are looking for a great first time experiance I wouldn't hesistate to point you to some of my Fav's,  Roxie, Mea, Holly, Kiley (Shes on Vacation I think), Nikoletta... but I think Roxie69 may have the best solution for you, give her an email and see what comes back... I hear she is extending her stay for a few days so act quick!

I guess that's what being a newbie is all about.  I read what dc and p411 required to sign up  and I have to admit I panicked.  If there are any dc or p411 govt employee users out there, I would really appreciate any pointers as to how to sign up with as much discretion as possible.

to not give anyone your work information, or any personal information at all.  The bottom line is that if you give your work information to a verification service, an agency, or an indy, and you work for the government, it means that the records of that service, agency, or indy reflect the fact that you work for the government.  Reasonable people can debate the implications of that - i.e., how likely is it that the information will fall into the wrong hands.  (And note that by "wrong hands" I don't necessarily mean just LE.  Who's to say that an indy, agency or someone with access to info from the service won't try to use it against you?)  But there's no getting around the fact that the information will be out there.  So I don't see any room for "discretion" on your part, other than not turning over the info or, if you do turn it over, making sure you don't send any of this information from your work computer.

eek I feel your situation.  A subset of gov't employees (myself included) cannot take the chance to put any info that could get back to us on date-check or any other verification site.  It would simply wreck our career.

I am also a gov't worker and I DO! work in **.  So, what.  I am verified with preferred411 AND with RoomService2000.  I have a couple excellent primary providers who also will vouch for me.

My advice is to relax and roll your concern-o-meter in a notch or 12.  Nobody is "out to get you".  The simple act of being verified through a service has no direct link to you being involved or active in the hobby.  Your 5 year background check isn't going to bring this up.

Relax and indulge.

I would like to thank everyone who replied.  I feel a little more confident going forward.

...I work for the gov't and I got verified with P411 and DateCheck -- very simple, very discreet.  You may be able to convince some ladies to see you, but you'd be far better off and have a much wider selection in you get verified first.  If you use P411 or DC verified providers, they can then give you a verification on one or both sites.  You can also get White listed here on TER if you see a provider with TER access.  With those three verifications, you may find that you never even give out a reference and still have a wide selection.  If I were you, I'd be more concern about how and where I hobby than about the verification process.  An  unreviewed, BP provider wasn't a good starting point.  You were just fortunate.  Stick to well-reviewed TER indies, at least until you get some more experience.  Have fun.

Thanks for the input/suggestion.  Very helpful indeed.

Since you gave her a first review... tell her of the bennies of a TER profile (advertising, limited VIP, etc.). Check to see if she advertises on P411 or DC. If not, tell her about these and ask her for a referral on those and a whitelist here. Explain the utility of DC & P411 for security and screening.
