26 tickets in 2 weeks. Luckily it only cost $40 a ticket, even though it said "fined doubled". They put one right on my neighborhood, they got me every morning for two weeks, a couple of times in the afternoon, and every day around 6:30PM.

What can I do? I wake up early in the morning and have to rush to work, besides, that street is made for speeding. I can't take it to court, cause it's just too many tickets. I just don't understand why they don't mail the letter out within a couple of weeks instead of waiting for two weeks. Doesn't make any sense to me. If I knew that I had speed and got a ticket within a couple of days, that would have prevented me from speeding.

Anyways, some speed cameras are permanent, and it is easily identifiable next to the traffic lights. The biggest thing to look out for are those temporary speed cameras, the one that look like the pictures are the bottom. Reason being, they can move those cameras anywhere and as a resident, you have no idea what those things are until you get busted.

Anyways, drive the speeding limit. Another thing to be weary of is red light cameras. I've gotten plenty of those, and it's not fun looking at your rear view mirror and see a flash.

cameras wouldn't matter then, would they.  I am a pedestrian in the city several days each week & the drivers amaze me.  Apparently most are unaware that the speed limit in the District, unless otherwise posted, is 25mph (though that was probably on the driving test).  I regulsrly cross Independence Ave. near the Mall and the average speed there appears to be 40+.  And someone runs the red light when I'm crossing about 2 out of 3 times; and what is really stupid about it is that they invariably have to stop at the next corner anyway.  I feel no sympathy for those getting tickets from these cameras.  Everybody needs to slow down & stop for red lights, & maybe then I won't feel so threatened as a pedestrian!

Just add a "safety camera" subscription to your GPS. The thing beeps at me whenever I approach a speed or a red-light camera. A one year subscription is less than 1/4 the price of a ticket.

I have to say that DC is not always looking at safety in its camera placement. At least three that I know of are on brief stretches of multi-lane divided highways. These roads are designed for 55, but right at the camera, DC drops the limit to 45 or even 35. After the camera zone, the speed limit goes up.

Here in MoCo the Politburo decided to put a speed camera at the bottom of a nearby hill. It's easy to let gravity quickly pull your car pass that camera to trigger it if you're not careful. It's a vicious game of cat and mouse--us against them.

It has a lot to to with the hobby.

I got a ticket in the mail the other day, and thought.... what if I was on my way to an appointment and my S.O opened the ticket. then asked why were you on that road the other day.  If you get a ticket going to, or coming from an appointment, you better have a good alibi. be careful out there.  there is also toll roads  that send you a bill that identifies you being on a road at  certain time, so watch where you drive. Be careful about toll roads. Big Brother is watching.  It does matter!!!

Today I went by my primary residence and found a ticket in the mail. Forty dollars, then I thought about McDonald000 and thought, "oh well, could be worse". I'm going to look into the safety camera subscription. In the meantime, I've pull out my radar detector. In the past, I've only used it for long distance trips.
