Any tips on where to get good, safe IT support?

I have a PC or two that could use some servicing.  But I am paranoid to bring them to anyone for fear that they will be able to harvest sensitive data off of them - the kind of info you don't want floating around out in public.  Like, for instance, well... hobbying info for a start.

Any tips?  How do others handle this?

Watch out buying a used PC on CL or anywhere else.  

Make sure you trust whomever you are buying from.  A used PC could have virus or spy software on it that could be used to steal your info and scam you.  You'll probably want to wipe any used PC clean yourself and reinstall the software so you know you have a clean start.  

I'm no IT person, but perhaps some of the IT inclined people on the board could chime in w/ advice?
