Blue Ocean Restaurant in Fairfax is run by Japanese - that's rare around here. It's on Rt. 236 and Pickett in Fairfax. I've had real good sushi there.
Right down the street from there, and just off the Beltway on Little River Turnpike, is Annandale. That's our Koreatown, and it is chock full of Korean restaurants that serve up sushi Korean-style. Very many excellent restaurants. The most popular is Yechon, near the corner of Hummer and Little River Turnpike, right off the Beltway. My fave for Annandale sushi is Soju Sarang in the Little Seoul Plaza on Markham Street in Annandale. It's a little hole-in-the-wall sort of place. I go there with a friend and we get their "Small Sashimi Combo", and -- those Koreans just THROW food at you! They just keep coming out with more and more and more and more. It's insane, but lots of fun.
On Rt 7 at Tyson -- shopping center between the Koon's dealership and the Stohlman's dealership -- is pretty good too and is in the area. The Chinese restaurant at the end of the mall also has a small sushi bar but never eaten there so cannot say if it's good or bad.
If you're looking for a legit sushi house, a short hop from Tyson's is Sushi Yoshi in Vienna. Mostly fresh fish unlike most places that happen to also serve sushi/sashimi in NoVA. Highly recommend the Chirashi at Sushi Yoshi. The next closest legit places I know of would be in old town Alexandria and DC. I would avoid most sushi places around here on Sunday and Monday unless they exclusively do sushi.
Sea Pearl is losing money, so I imagine they stretch their stock. It's a mid-level seafood place that started doing Sunday brunch buffet. I would keep walking past and eat at Sea Pearl's owner's mother's place around the corner for some decent Vietnamese food at Four Sisters. Not saying Sea Pearl is bad, just they do western-style sushi presentations if you know what I mean (and I was served partially frozen ahi there my one time trying their sushi).
