Ask for an early check-in...

I'd like to schedule a 4 hour out call starting at noon at a local hotel.   Do any decent DC area hotels allow this short of having me book two consecutive nights?

I haven't done it in DC, but I have on many occasions called a hotel and asked if they have a room available for an early check-in.

If you can reach a desk manager or assistant manager, you can ask for a "day rate."   Hotels  offered these for years and many still do.  You'll just have to assure them that you'll be out by a certain time later in the day.   They'll quote a decent rate.  It is a double-dip for them because they can service the room and make it available for another paying guest.

I never knew that.  I'm going to try it just to find out which hotels do and which don't.  I may even call around and compile a list of three and four stars in the area that still offer it.  I'll keep you posted.
