Aliases are incredibly cowardly, in my opinion.

... and hiding behind an alias in order to insult, "dis", mock, or otherwise be denigrating to your fellow boardmembers, whether they are a provider, hobbyist, or visiting diplomat from Transgendervania will no longer be tolerated.

As a Moderator, I've found I must wear many hats. Classroom Monitor was NEVER part of the job description, nonetheless, sometimes, it feels that way. And I really resent it when I'm forced to be an asshole because of it.

I don't want us singing Kumbaya, but I am asking for your cooperation, and I welcome your feedback.

Comments? Clarifications? Complaints? Questions?

Aliases are incredibly cowardly, in my opinion.

Use of topical humor when the alias enhances the humor

The creation of a character(literary license) to be used in an informative, fun, innocuously sarcastic, philanthropic, as well as topical way.

Anonymity for when regional or associational sensitivities may be of concern, particularly when there are members out there who will harass you on the boards when you disagree strongly with them.

Innocuous playing of "devils advocate" in a discussion or debate where one wishes to not be further/future aligned with one faction or the other.  If you look at the GD Board, there are providers who have flat out stated that they won't see someone based on some of their posts.  Why would any guy take the chance.

Avoidance of suffering political fallout for a comment that may have been wrongly construed in a possibly volatile discussion.  Some of these regular posters are hyper-sensitive, and also don't read the whole post before going ballistic.

Posting investigative reports, meet & greet announcements, helpful advice, or other similar types of useful information where the use of a user-name could prove problematic or open the poster up to incessant PM's and questions.

Concerns in revealing your review history.  This is a big one when you are posting about a particular provider that you are not going to name. In those situations, you open ALL of your reviewed providers to the public guessing who you are talking about.  It's not fair to the others.

Ability to contribute where you would otherwise feel embarrassed to speak candidly.  Some are just too shy, but will post under an alias.

To avoid a google search turning up your review history.  Some of these guys only post in alias for this reason.

what if a person is deserving of being mocked, dissed or otherwise?

PM me expressing your displeasure and I will review the thread.

I have disapproved a number of posts from this weekend due to complaints.

If an admin clicks the "Don't like" button, the poster is moderated for 5 days. Each subsequent use of "Don't like" adds to the tariff, so to speak. Each offense could then be databased to facilitate future decisions of permanent moderation or banishment.

... meanwhile, it falls upon me to maintain a semblance of propriety on this board.

When have I ever made fun of anyone? LOL

Alright I'll go to my room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(

Funny thing... your name was never part of this particular equation, but if the shoes fit, put them on in your room.

Thank you.

I don't review unless it's adding information, I rarely say a thing in the forum but I pay to have full access to this site.  I use it for information.  I am willing to bet that I speak for the silent majority when I say these forums are often a disgrace.  Petty differences that spread across threads and drive some serious questions out.  I'm sure it puts off the casual reader as well (that one that might spend $ on the site).

I want the personal animosity stripped from these forums - and I doubt I am anywhere close to alone.  If you don't like someone that is posting, don't go out for drinks with them.  Derailing a third party's thread ruins the forum.  Unfortunately, pruning these threads is a lot of work for moderators and they can't be awake 24/7/365.  So - moderate away Doc and deal with those that make it too much work. If someone is making too much work for you - well, we all know one way to not have to moderate someone again.

Hey, Doc.

Forgive a visitor from GA, but I did have a question on your position. I thought Kumbaya was spelled with a "C", not a "K". Which is correct?? ;)

Jim

it is correct either way, just louder when spelled with a C.

If we could just lose some of the petty meanness, especially from behind aliases, that would be really cool and would really improve the quality and enjoyment of the DC board.  Thanks.

This is the board of information exchange and i've always assumed fellow hobbist are tolerant people of all walks of life. The fact we are hobbist means we share a common interest and are using the board to share informtion that would help us to enhance our enjoyment of the hobby.

Using alias to attack others has nothing to do with hobbying. if you have the needs to criticize or make fun of others then you really don't belong here or perhaps you need to get a life.

just my two cents.
