A totally flat option is more useful and quicker.  Many times it is the replies to a post that are more interesting (sometimes because of the title, if the subsequent poster supplied one, and sometimes because of who the subsequent poster is.)

e.g., when we see that a friend, or just another respected hobbyist has replied to a post, we are more likely to comment ourselves, and to read the original post.

Some of us sometimes have only a little time to scan the board, and anything that helps us find what we are looking for faster, must be considered good.

The new board is prettier, and with a few tweaks, may turn out to be much better.  OTOH, most guys only care about pretty women, not pretty websites. Utility trumps appearance.

I really do not like the tree view.  It only shows the heading of each post.  The flat view shows everyone's entire post.  Try it.  I think you will like it.

If anyone else learned about another new feature that you LIKE about the newer version of TER, please share.  Together we can all create our own TER Users Guide.  LOL

In the classic TER version, we can view all the posts and all the responses to it.  That way we can have a summary view of how long is each thread, who responded, etc.  That is a great way to take a quick glance and see what is happening and who is happening.

The new TER does not have this "summary" view of everything, and as you pointed out, we must click on a thread to see who posted, then click again to read.

Classic TER is still much better when it comes to discussion boards format.  They can change anything else but leave the discussion board format the way it is originally.

Just talked to a respected provider on this subject and she and I both would agree with your sentiment.

Tree view = the "classic" view when you entered a board.  I hope they make that option available on the board itself, then I could quickly scan the through the threads without having to click on each one.

Flat view = the "classic" View All option.  I'm glad they added that.

Btw, I posted elsewhere that they removed the link to classic.theeroticreview.com from the homepage.  It turns out that you can see that link only if you're not logged in.  Once you're logged in, the screen real estate where they show that link is replaced by the My TER list of Quick Links.  My bad.

Now they just need to add that classic.theeroticreview.com link to the News section of the homepage so that everyone can see it regardless of whether or not they're logged in.

Now that we can quote a post, I like the flat view.

A tree structure requires that we have to reply to someone, which is not always the case.
