If you appreciate authentic and experimental Indian cuisine try either location for Rasika.

Without knowing  what area you will be at or knowing your preferences I would recommend Firefly on New Hampshire Avenue for dinner (inside the Hotel Madera).  DC has been really stupid about COVID, so there are still a bunch of ridiculous restrictions in place.  Go out to Annapolis if you want to breathe and have a good meal.

The best Italian restaurant in the Washington area is https://www.osteriamarzano.com/ in Kingstown, just east of Springfield Mall.  Everything is excellent.  The "Italian fries" are the world's best French fries.  Prices are not bad.
