if they have the option to OPT-OUT of your newsletter than it should not be a problem.

The only other option I would think would be to have a sub-newsletter for calender updates ONLY, that way if there are any updates you only send it to that list on your server.

You can then ask your newsletter guys to subscribe to that.

Less discreet would be something like http://twitter.com/ .. but then you have to put 'blow by blow' notices out there

so it should be like a 'customer room' of a sort where U/P is required to get in, otherwise google will find it in notime
