I visit Charlotte a couple times a year.  The South Park mall area is nice with plenty of restaurants and a Whole Foods.  I've also stayed in the Matthews area which is SW of downtown area.  Matthews is a nice quiet area, but is somewhat isolated.

I meant to write that Matthews area which is SE (not SW) of downtown.
