Cayden --  A little late responding.  Downtown is certainly the convention area, but if you're looking for local traffic, I believe that the airport area would be better suited.  Within four miles of the airport are a host of nicer hotels:  Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Courtyard, Hampton (a little hard to find); then there are the second tier places: Baymont, Econolodge; and the third tier:  Motel Six.  Most of these hotels lie on/near 28th Street, the southern commercial strip in GR, and are very close to the I-96 expressway and M-6 southern bypass.  I cannot speak for the amount of business available, but I see ads for Travelling Companions a couple days a week here in town.  Good luck!
