Amtrak is good if it's easy to get to Union Station or New Carrollton from where you live on the DC end, and get from 30th Street Station to wherever you're staying on the Philly end (e.g. live in Arlington and will be staying downtown). Especially if you can book more than a week or so in advance, since prices go up significantly for most times after that.

Driving is better if you can time the travel for when the traffic on 95 won't be as bad (generally middle of the day or after 7-8 pm or so), and where getting to and from the Amtrak stations would require a longer taxi or Uber. Say, if you live in Rockville and will be staying in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Need to also figure in your length of stay and whether you would need to pay for parking wherever you are staying

I am now planning a trip to Philly in couple weeks and wondering what is the best way to travel to the area? Metro? Driving?
If ladies don't mind... PM for details :)

Traveling by car, tolls will run you  $24 r/t and parking in Center City is expensive. Parking will run about $40 per day in CC. Greyhound bus will run you about  $20 one way.  Fares on Megabus are as low as $1 to $5. There's Amtrak too but they leave from Union Station.
