and there is also a Museum of Modern Art on the north side that I enjoyed as well.

Of course the grand museum is the Art Institute of Chicago on Michigan.   There is an exhibit there in the basement of the old building called the Thorne Rooms - miniatures of historic old places that are now gone, but preserved in 1/12 scale.  They are breath taking in their detail.
