IMO pure speculation on my part because I am in no way a doctor/ physician(despite what happens behind closed doors) you are putting the quotes on the wrong part of the sentence. You are emphasizing "hobby" and you should be thinking about the fact it could be "this" or "that". They have entire shows about people eating dry wall or drinking detergents so in the world of hobbies I am quite sure you could find more detrimental behavior. If you are dealing with personal issues and are keenly insightful enough to use words like "being consumed" or using the hobby to "escape other realities" then in my experience you aren't making the best of your time. I've always had the best moments with providers and the most fun when I knew I wasn't feeling like I needed a fix. Just my two cents anyways.
I am curious to know if any hobbyists out there have felt concerned that the "hobby" has turned into a compulsion, perhaps an addiction. I ask because lately I am dealing with personal issues and I find myself being consumed with the hobby to escape other realities. I ask with honesty and sincerity: is it possible to cross a line such that this hobby can't be controlled again? Or has anyone had these feelings and been able to manage the hobby so that it doesn't become so all consuming. Just looking for some honest observations, wisdom and benefit of experience. Thank you.

I greatly appreciate your honesty and candor. I have not chased as long as you, but long enough to realize it's not an "experiment" or a "passing phase." And I feel that, like yourself it's pushing so many other things that should matter to me out of my life that it also has the potential to destroy my life. Like any behavior I guess an invisible line can be crossed such that "you can't squeeze the toothpaste (lube?) back into the tube." I don't want to create negativity for those who are enjoying the hobby, but there is a note of caution here. Again, I GREATLY appreciate your honesty and since we are both still living and breathing there's life in front of us that can be enjoyed, not destroyed.

I find if I'm not reading the discussion boards every day and looking for the next girl that's coming to town, I don't feel quite as consumed with it. Sometimes it's a s simple as getting up from the computer and walking away.
I never got addicted to anything that wasn't totally awesome. I'm an ass addict too and there's no AA for me.
Ya have to step back and gain a perspective of control, but it can be addictive as you search for that elusive "perfect piece" that "perfect T-lady", I have had some great ones but never the perfect one.
...it's certainly an addiction for me...have been in and out of sex addicts anonymous for five years...keep falling off the wagon because unlike smoking, drinking or drugs, you need sex...I'm a weakling and love both my pussy and tgirls...sex addiction grows over the years as it's an insidious disease...I now chase and fantasize about "types" of women I never would have looked at ten years ago...I'm also taking bigger risks with providers...don't know how it will end but I do know the SAA program works if you live it 24/7...good luck
