Legal help?

Does anybody have experience dealing with LE in Montgomery County, MD?  I answered an ad on craigslist and got robbed.  I reported it as a straight robbery, when I was going to visit a friend.  Now they are investigating and want to question me about the details.  Will I be in trouble if I admit what really happened?  Any advice?  Anybody I should talk to first?

Although the cops might not be too happy that you weren't honest in the 1st place. I have to say I totally understand why.
Maybe someone else will have a concrete answer.

Thanks, Allison, for any help you can provide.  I'm meeting with them at 5 p.m. today.

..I'll let you share the results if you want too. Glad I could be of some help!

You may be that tranny's biiiaaach after all.  Get a lawyer or wisper into the detectives ear that you were visiting a tranny prostitute and did not want to say that earlier.

Hind sight is 20/20. Just be ready with an answer for when they tell you that they will let you off the hook for not telling the truth the fist time as long as you help them out, and that you are now their shill and you will be making appointments for them. Good luck, Oh the webs we weave.....

When you get frightened or nervous, you sometimes black out and can't remember what happened.  :)

Can any Maryland providers recommend a good lawyer?

From the MD Penal Code:

"To rob is to take something away from a person by force or violence (no matter how slight) or by threat of force or violence."

Were you actually "robbed"? If so, I wouldn't spend my hard earned money on an attorney just yet. Have you actually made a false statement yet? If you really are a robbery victim, the circumstances surrounding the robbery do not change the fact that you were robbed.

Now, if you got suckered out of your $$ somehow and filed a report stating that you were robbed, you're up shit creek.

Without knowing what actually went down, it is hard to give advice...

teedub562 asked this question you didn't answer.

Robbed or deceived. Weapons used or threat of bodily injury.

You know the perpetrator so you filed a false police report unless you stated the perpetrator's name.

So if you gave the perpetrator name it is now your word against his.

If you didn't give his (perpetrator) name but divulge it later you lose credibilty in a "he said he said" case

NEXT TIME IF THE GIRL IS HOLED UP IN A HOTEL/MOTEL HOLIDAY INN AND RIPS YOU OFF JUST DROP THAT DIME. PUT SOMETHING ON THEIR "JACKET" AND IT WILL MAKE THEM THINK TWICE BEFORE RIPPING SOMEONE ELSE OFF.

BUT THEN AGAIN THERE GUYS WHO ARE WILLING TO TAKE IT UP THE ASS IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE

Would you mind sharing who you were trying to visit?

In that case I wouldn't spend my $$ on an attorney unless they decide to charge you with something, and even then it depends on the charges. That's just pissing more of your money away. You ARE NOT going to be doing any time, even if they decide to charge you with something. You might get a fine and possibly probation at the worst. All an atty will be able to do for you at that point is maybe get you a plea bargain. Trust me on this.

But if you play your cards right you might catch a break. This means fessing up. If you keep on lying its just gonna get harder to keep track of the BS and they will catch you. That's what they do.

Tell Sgt. Stadanko that you respect the fact he's a busy man with a tough job to do and you don't want to jerk him around (the po-po loves a good salad tossing). Tell him you were just embarrased to admit what you were really doing there, you've never done anything that crazy before and you've learned your lesson. But after thinking about it, you don't want anyone else to be victimized like you were or even worse, injured or killed (a good samaritan you are).

Remember, you are still the victim of a crime. You did not lie about that. You were really robbed. The details about the events that led up to the robbery were just distorted a bit...

Good Luck!

There is really know easy answer, but here are my suggestions:

1)  Get legal representation and have your lawyer convey the truth to LE.  You were looking to commit a crime (solicitation) so you don't want to implicate yourself and want to maintain your 4th amendment right.  Your lawyer (if she is any good) can tell the story without destroying your 4th amendment.

2)  SPEAK UP.  Let folks on this board know who you went to go see so we can avoid the same trouble.

3)  I'd also try to keep TER and TS out of your description to your lawyer as much as possible.

4)  While I always tend to agree with the DOG, I think the decision to walk away depends greatly on a number of factors, including the amount of the loss and whether there was any violence.  Losing $$ isn't a big deal, but if you lost 5 times that and were beaten silly, I think that calling the cops is probably the best thing. This is far more common that you know.
