It's the dawn of a new Dark Age unless a new political movement arises to stop it.  But I don't see that possibility in the current American character.  The late comic, George Carlin, identified the root of the problem: "garbage in (the electorate), garbage out (political office holders)", so it doesn't matter which 'Republicrat' is president, which set of genitals are present between his or her legs or what shade of skin color.  Those are distinctions without a difference.
