Greetings from Australia. I'm traveling from here to there and will be able to choose my arrival city. So tell me, which is better? LA or San Fran given an arrival in late April.

Los Angeles, not LAX. Do not stay by the airport. Its typically not a good area. Fly into LAX or Burbank and stay closer to Hollywood, Burbank, North Hollywood or Beverly Hills but not LAX. You will get "Buffalo'ed" if you stay there.
