Yeah, I can see stopping at a spot would be a real issue...
I do get a lot of no-shows (trolls off CL, IMHO).. But I do take a fair number of calls also.. AS many as I wish actually during most weeks This week is slow (another story)...
I do usually ask you call me for the last two turns and that is less than a minute for my house - 6 seconds turn, 12 seconds turn, right in front of you.. I also give exact mileage within a couple of 10ths...
I really never had any complaints in that direction myself.. It is good to know what Guys don't like..
It refers to a 'screening' method that I thought was common.. It seems to unnerve some people..
I posted this reply but my post usually fall through the cracks there and never show up so I am posting it here..
Please don't bite.. I could use some advice from you Guys..
I ask you Gents because you know...
This thread is in lines with how I am.. When someone wants to see me I give them a "Near Here" location as I don't want to just pass out my address to, well you know what I mean.. I made that mistake one to many times..
As they get to that point call and I will guide you in.. That near point is within a minute or so of where I am..
I see from the message and threads this 'spooks' many..
Now of course if this is a return that does not apply.. I only use this with new clients..
Guys is there a preferred way of doing this as I thought this was fairly standard practice??
My impression from the other thread is that some are threatened by being directed to a specific "near" spot in order to obtain further instructions. It is kind of silly, but that appears to be the case. I can't imagine a specific sting scenario that could be deployed at that "spot" short of photographs or something. I have read reviews of providers, mostly in NYC, where you are told to call from a specific phone. That would be more threatening than sitting in a running car in a restaurant parking lot with $400 cash on you talking on a cell phone.
I understand your reluctance to give out the "end" address considering the number of no-show calls you must receive. By getting us to commit in the first step at least keeps your address private to that point.
I don't see the beef, but if you want to soften the commitment a little, just give them an "about the time you arrive near..." or something. You will still have to get exactly where they are before you can direct them in.
